Re: Filling @ BP

It does remind me of an old thread on these forums of an owner who lost their Minor due to fuel dripping onto their engine while they were driving (and posting the photos in the thread as they watched it from a safe distance). I noticed the video had the various YT comments blaming the company, blam...

Re: Engine Copper Heater Pipe - Does this look normal?

The copper pipe looks to have been kinked by bending, if you remove the pipe and warm it and gently tap it back to shape. Warming it with a blow lamp or gas torch will soften the copper. If you try it cold it will likely split. Thanks for the reply. Now that the heavy storms have passed over I was ...

Engine Copper Heater Pipe - Does this look normal?

Hi, Several years ago my Mothers' Minor had a lot of work done by a garage, it was returned with the work completed and the garage closing down that day (we were their last job ever). Due to other things, the car ended up being put away. I was out at it yesterday and noticed the top rubber heater ho...

Re: Lubricants

Thanks for the replies, most useful. How do I download photos by the way. Cheers. However if you actually meant download, then you should be able to perform a right click or (on touch devices) long tap to get the required 'save as image' or whatever it may be called. I know I bookmarked svenedin's h...

That's the Maximum Pressure, whatever the tyre is fitted to!
Explains those YouTube videos from garages showing customers cars with tires inflated to 100+ psi I guess.

Re: recommending engine oil.

East Sussex Minors use Castrol Classic XL 20w/50 ESM also sells Comma X-Flow 20w/50 and since I found it on Amazon free delivery for £13.39 that's what I went with. I see it's now jumped up to £19.78, though that's still cheaper than ESM since they're £27.18 a bottle: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0...

Diff Plug Tool

As the following information is spread across multiple threads by multiple people, I figured it would be best to have just one thread to make it easier to find... Tools: ESM: Drain Plug Tool - Differential (Fits Original SQUARE Hole Plug) - This is painted red. ESM: Drain Plug Tool (Universal) - Thi...

Re: Carpet Set Recommendation Required

Moss could be Newton Commercial carpets at that price. ESM sell Newton Commercial and an unbranded carpet set, the difference between them is about what you're seeing with AE vs Moss. (£119.88 vs £232.93 NC - both incl. vat) Nothing came up online (other than this thread) about AE being taken over b...

It makes me wonder if your car is in a very original factory condition for it to still have what could well be 1960's tires still on it.

Re: Tyre dating

https://www.goodyear.com/en_US/learn/tire-basics/tire-date-code.html If your tires were made before the year 2000, the date code will be only 3 digits – the first two digits again listing the week of the year, and the last digit being the last digit of the year of the tire’s manufacture. This means ...

Re: Rapid Indicator Speed - Not a Bulb!

Mine has the same issue ever since it got rear ended (except it's the right that's fast). Screwing up the lens cover is enough to stop the indicator from working at all (even after a garage were asked to fix it, what's the betting it worked while it was there), wiggling the bulb is the cure (to get ...

Re: Morris Traveler paperwork

DVLA still have a record of UFX 503 so it's again possible it's in a barn etc. somewhere (though others have said in the past that record keeping for scrapping cars wasn't so well maintained). The DVLA site says it was last sold (v5c issued) on the 10th September 1990. Your best bet for both registr...

Re: Morris Traveler paperwork

Interestingly enough when you look up the details for that number:

Built: 1971.
First Registered: 1982 (quite some gap from when it was built)
Date of last V5C issued: 21/06/1995

So you have somehow got the original V5 from the current owner (presuming it isn't in some barn somewhere).

Re: Lockheed Brake M/C

Spanner thread does say 7/16W for the cap, so if that is also the size for spark plugs (I've always just used the long socket in my socket set which is unmarked for size) then this presumably means the inclusion of the box spanner/tommy bar with the original toolkit was for both brake fluid and spar...

I take it a correctly sized socket is okay to use? (as in it doesn't have to be a box spanner?)

Re: solar panel

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I find mine has enough charge still in it after over a year of it sitting disconnected in the car for multiple starts, so maybe it would be as easy to just keep it unplugged when not in use? The only reason I had to charge it again the other day was that I could hear it get...

Seemed to have a slight stutter between the 6-7 second mark of your video almost like it lost fuel momentarily and then caught itself again.

Oh yes, I'd never use tap water, even when I lived in a soft water area.
Bill_qaz wrote: Sat Mar 09, 2024 6:53 pm Or just refill with premixed coolant after flushing.
I already have the concentrate and deionised water purchased.
