Re: Engine ID

APHM 948 (duck egg blue/red sump) 9/56 to c7/57 Yes, that reference is also listed on the website that geoberni kindly shared with us: APHM 803cc Morris Minor MM OHV engine, 8HP. ( first 'A' series.) That isn't the engine I have though. What I am trying to do is to confirm whether or not I have a m...

Re: Engine ID

Rocco - if you look in the pdf file GeoBerni posted, you see: APJM 948cc Morris Minor 1000 OHV engine 10HP. Hope this helps. Tom m. Thank you Tom. I realised that and that's why I posted that exact reference. What I cannot find are the letters APJM on the engine anywhere nor do I know what the 10HP...

Re: Engine ID

Thanks for that. Any idea how I reference my engine to the one stated on that website? Where would I find "APJM" and do you know what "10HP" is supposed to represent?

APJM 948cc Morris Minor 1000 OHV engine 10HP.

It's all rather confusing, at least for me.

Engine ID

Hi Gang I'm trying to get an idea of the kind of engine I have in my car. It's stamped 950 on the block but 2A799 is forged in to the steel with some other letters and numbers which I have no clue about. On the head, the metal tag/plate is 8G10 R M79363 A D The websites I've found don't identify 8G1...

It's great when things like that happen and a bonus when it's such a cheap and easy fix too.

Re: National Rally 2023

Alternate between a northern location and a southern location each year? Those who don't like to drive too far will have a bi-annual opportunity to attend. Personally, if I lived in the UK I'd quite fancy a trip to Cornwall, nice quiet little town, seaside, Cornish paaaasty, ice cream and a cuppa te...

Re: Forum Activity

Well I supposed the term active is relative. I was only comparing to other car and motorbike forums, it wasn't intended as a dig. :tu1: I can also understand it completely because once you have finished repairing/restoring a car, you generally don't need to frequent the forums so much. Everyone has ...

Forum Activity

Hi Gang I can't help but notice that there isn't too much activity on here or the other forum. Could it be that every Minor owner has completed all the work they need to do and there's nothing left to learn or share? How many owners do you think there are who regularly drive their cars? If there's n...

Re: Almost a new owner

Nice one Philip :) I have no doubt that I'll get a tremendous amount of pleasure driving the old thing once I've got it sorted but until then, I can fully appreciate there will be an abundance of swearing ahead of me. I've just shelled out on a new aluminium radiator, quite a good deal for €99 deliv...

Re: Almost a new owner

Aha, yes. I've got the front bumper off and now setting about the grill. Problem is, the hockey stick screws are so rusty that two have sheared. Trying to get a 8mm spanner on the top nut behind the screw is a pain too. I've definitely got a 950 engine, no question about it but it's going to need a ...

Re: Almost a new owner

First wash in almost 20-years. The paint is horrendous and the photos really do flatter it. Since being told about the rear wings not being original, they irritate me a little now, it doesn't look at all right.

Re: Almost a new owner

You see, this is why I love to read comments from people who know about these cars. I am really uninitiated with these so it really helps me to read this kind of stuff. The rear wings are probably not original, they have orange in the light cluster and some untidy wiring running across the rear sect...

Re: Almost a new owner

Cheers Panky
I just "introduced myself" on that forum and downloaded a couple of those .pdfs for reference.
Being that I shared a photo there, I will share it here too. I don't imagine there's any silly rivalry between forums like there is for other cars, is there?

Re: A new owner

Cheers Kevin, that's some really good advice :tu1: I've just tucked her away in the garage now, plenty of space to work on the engine in there and keep out of the wet weather. I was just wondering, the two previous keepers of the car were Gerald from Kings Lynn and Peter from Hunstanton, perhaps one...

Re: Collecting tomorrow

It's happening. I've picked up the trailer tonight and my new project will be brought home with me tomorrow. There's something quite worrying about saving an old car, it's all I can think of right now. How much is it going to cost me, am I going to find something terminal that'll scupper the whole p...

Re: Almost a new owner

Wow, thank you all so much for the great advice. Just to be clear, I would buy the car with full knowledge that it'll need a heck of a lot of work and money to bring back to a good condition. It's what attracts me to the car really. I'm not a professional mechanic but I do enjoy tinkering quite a bi...

Almost a new owner

Hi Gang I've been to look at a Moggie tonight and am now thinking hard about whether to take the plunge. It's a 1961 saloon in black, 41k miles on the clock and has been sat for 18 years. It's fairly solid but with a horrendously tired looking interior. I thought I'd join here and read up on these o...
