That is indeed a smashing looking car, come on start me off, where we gonna be with it?
At first glance I thought it was a Million! The DVLA has it down as a 1955 in beige but it looks more lilac to me.
I don't know anything about the car but it's a lovely old thing, very straight.

Re: Engine ID
I popped the new valves in to the new guides in the newly cut seats today but strangely, one of the exhaust valves doesn't want to go through any of the guides. And one of the inlet valves needs to be encouraged a bit more than it should be to hit the seat. The guy who did the head work had one of e...

Re: Engine ID
Short update, I finally got the head back from the shop last Monday. Surface has been done, not sure if he skimmed it or blasted it. Valves seats cut, new bypass adapter, new valves and guides. Well pleased with it and will be lapping valves and putting it all back together this weekend. 20231113_08...

Re: Midget Steering Rack
Thanks. From what I have gleaned, the earlier racks are fat and the later ones (post '70 I guess) are thin. The one I found wasn't exactly cheap and since then I've seen them going on eBay, new, for about the same price. I didn't intend to convert mine to LHD but if I can get hold of the parts cheap...

Re: New 'Genuine' Lockheed Master Cylinder
I scrapped a master cylinder a few weeks ago, I think it was ok but not sure, I just wouldn’t want to waste time fitting if there was any doubt. Maybe a mistake. I’m doing a lot of ‘getting rid of’ lately, I’ve decided ‘less is more’ ! I don’t find it easy though, after living with clutter for so l...

Midget Steering Rack
Can anyone tell me please, does a steering rack from a LHD Midget fit a Minor? If the RHD rack can be turned upside down to fit to convert to LHD, would an LHD rack be identical to the RHD rack for a Minor? Hopefully someone has followed along with that. SteeringRackMidget1.jpg Thanks :tu1:

Re: Self Service Garage (BBC Archive video).
I just did a quick web search for 'Car Hobby Workshop' and apparently they're widely available on USAF bases in the UK and elsewhere. Not surprising I suppose, they do generally have a very good welfare support infrastructure for their personnel..... https://www.100fss.com/auto-hobby-complex I also...

Re: 1965 Four Door - sympathetic resto
Congratulations on the new project. I usually describe such a car as "presentable", as in it looks great from 5 yards or more. :tu1: You should have that on the road in no time and then you can tackle one job at a time. It's what I was advised to do but then my engine had been sat a long t...

Re: Self Service Garage (BBC Archive video).
I've used a couple of the Hobbywerkstatten around Munich but the two nearest to me have now closed. Last time I went was last year to change gearbox and diff. oil on an old BMW E46. For €10-an-hour it's well worth it to get a car up in the air to work on and if you need a hand, the chap running the ...

Re: Timing chain
Thanks Phil Do the screws not come in the duplex kit? I've seen them in the image for the kit on some sites. What impact will it have using the oil thrower I've already got? It's hard to understand how a flat metal ring can throw oil and perhaps that's why a concave one was used? I bow to your exper...

Re: Fiat twin cam advice please
I wonder if it might be better to ask your questions on a Fiat forum as most of them pertain to an engine and gearbox that only a few on here may be familiar with?

Re: Timing chain
Being that ESM don't have any single kits at the moment and if only a couple of holes need countersinking on the front plate, I'm going to go for the duplex kit. It's cheaper too.

Re: Timing chain
Cheers Phil. Just to be clear, the photo is what I was presented with as I took the timing cover off. That nut is a mess but I didn't do it, honest guv. I believe I'll need a new cam sprocket/gear because someone has taken a bite out of mine. Moggy_CamGearDamage.jpg The timing cover looks like this....

Re: Timing chain
Gents, I need some advice please. Again, yes I know. :tu1: :D I want... no, make that need to buy a new timing chain kit with sprockets. The 948cc engine I have doesn't have tensioner and the chain does look a bit slack in the photo below. I don't want to mess about drilling or countersinking holes ...

Re: Head Part ID
Yes Stephen, I bought the grooved guides that Phil recommended and they were fitted last week. I will check with the mechanic again but I saw him measure and compare one of the valves and there was a visible size difference. Well the 1098 inlet valves are larger than the 948 ones. Thanks. So the ex...

Re: Head Part ID
I've had a look on ESM and the hardened exhaust valves they sell state they are for 803/948/1098 :o How can they be the same size for all engines? I suppose I'll have to call them to find out what is going on to avoid buying the wrong valves again. It could be that the seats in the head have been en...

Re: Head Part ID
Following up on this thread for the interest of anyone interested.... I put the head in to a local engineering place about 3-weeks ago. A good lad who has a workshop full of expensive machines, a Lola racing car and a Lotus Europa so I think he must be somewhat familiar with English motors. Then aga...
