Re: What and where does this pipe go

That is definitely the vacuum advance pipe with flame trap, but in your first post, you said that the pipe ran for only a few inches and then bent over, so was that not correct, and the pipe always ran the full route?

Re: Pull starter

As you have a pull starter, you do not have a solenoid, which is fitted only with a key start system. However, the problem is likely to be the contacts within the heavy duty switch that you are pulling. However, it could also be the starter motor hesitating. With the ignition OFF for safety, handbra...

Re: What and where does this pipe go

A picture would help, but I'm guessing that it's the flame trap from the old vacuum advance pipe, since replaced by the modern plastic pipe (assuming that there is a working vacuum advance fitted), but left in situ.

Zirconite Protection

Has anyone used Zirconite products? See https://zirconiteprotection.co.uk/

There is a possibility that we could obtain a discount for members, but before pursuing that, I would to know if anyone has any experience of the products, or would be interested in using them?

Re: DVLA call for evidence

Whilst healthy suspicion is always advisable, I think that a review could be beneficial. At present, if you changed you side valve engine for a V8, you would keep your registration number (subject to some conditions), but if converted your Minor to electric power, then the registration number would ...

Re: Messageboard still very slow - 5 second loading times.

The main site and forum servers are operated by different companies, so no, they have not swapped over :-? Everything is still pointing to an intermittent network problem; but we will continue to seek a solution. Sorry for any temporary inconvenience, it just takes time, and that is in short supply.

Re: S L O W

This appears to be a network issue with the IONOS host. You will have seen the announcement that they are migrating us to a new platform, and I think that the amount of traffic that move is generating, coupled with some configuration changes to their routers, is causing the slowness problem. I am in...

What year and model is your car? The fittings vary slightly.

Moving to "Mechanical" as it's not really "Bodywork"

Assembly looks good to me, glad to see the beehive springs in place and the return springs on the inside of the shoes :)

Re: Fuel starvation?

It may sound unlikely, but change the air filter for a new one. Better still, if available, swap it with one that is in another Minor that is working perfectly - see if the fault moves between cars.

Re: Fuel starvation?

Check that the piston in the carb moves freely - without the damper, if lifted fully and released, it should drop with a nice "clonk". Check oil in damper. Check needle not bent. Check float and valve operating correctly. Is vacuum, advance in dizzy OK? Fuel pump flow test, should deliver ...

It depends on how far you are prepared to travel. If you fancy M25, M11 and a little bit of A14 then Ian Allen of Minor Services in Witchford near Ely is very good. Unfortunately he usually has a waiting list and is winding down a bit; but if you are prepared to travel then give him a call. Highly r...

I'm also not disagreeing with above sentiments, but more people are killed by cars every year than by Escooters. Should all cars be banned too?

Server Maintenancecv

At some point in 2024 between 20th April and 31st May, our service provider will be migrating the server hosting this Messageboard to a new platform. This will mean that the Board will be down for up to one hour. If we get sufficient notice of when the migration will start, then I will post an updat...

The two speed motor has a normal speed that is slightly slower than the standard motor and a high speed that is considerably faster. It's basically a motor from the later classic mini. I used it for many years as I commuted on dual carriageways. It is worthwhile if you use the car for daily transpor...

Unless you have got an upgraded heater, in which case they may be 5/8. Easy to recognise as typically have reducers to take them back to half inch to connect to the tap and metal return pipe.

Re: Diff Oil Amount.

I've never seen a book in litres :-? According to the manuals I have, you need 1.5 pints which converts to 0.852 litres. However, filling until it reaches the bottom of the filler hole is what I've always done, and it's worked OK for 46 years with no ill effects 8)

Have a look at the old ones. You will probably see a similar length of exposed thread which should give you confidence.
