Minispares valve guides
My Minispares valve guides just arrived. They are longer than the originals I removed. Do I need to shorten them or are they ok as they are? If so does the extra length go into the manifold inlet/exhaust tract or above the head? Thanks for any help.[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=13928345...

Re: Bypass metal tube
Well I've succeeded in unscrewing the bypass tube. Thanks to all for advice but especially Daveyl - I followed your advice and welded an M10 bolt into the remains of the pipe. I was then able to get really good pressure on the bolt head and thus turn the seized tube.

Bypass metal tube
Has anybody any idea of how to remove the metal tube which screws into the bottom of the head beneath the thermostat housing? Mine was so rusted that it fell to bits when I tried to undo it so now it's flush with the head. I tapped the remaining piece in the hole and screwed in an M12 bolt, but I'm ...

I've no idea how to fit new valve guides - is it a specialist job or can anyone do it?

Valve stem oil seals
Could anyone please tell me if I can fit the 'top hat' type oil seals to the valves in my 1098cc cylinder head. The valve guides do not have a groove in them so will the seals remain where they are put? I'm reluctant to use the rubber 'o' ring type seals which were on when I took the head to bits. T...

Pipe bottom of float chamber.
Could anyone please tell me how the pipe from the bottom of the float chamber to the jet is supposed to be secured at the float chamber end. On mine there is a nut which it would seem should hold it in place - infact it does nothing, the pipe just pulls straight through the nut and out of the float ...

Re: Recon or rebuild?
I bought 2 engines that had been standing for some time and the plan is to make 1 good engine from the 3 I now have. I've got 1 excellent block, 1 good crank, plenty of good pistons and enough other bits to get the thing sorted I think. I've just ordered bearings etc from ESM this evening so I hope ...

Re: Recon or rebuild?
Yes we do have a small claims court here and perhaps I will try it. I am pretty p****d of with the company who brought the car back. I was hoping to be using it as my daily driver not rebuilding the engine! As a matter of interest I'll attach a picture of the hole in the block showing the crankpin i...

Deglazing cylinder bores
Firstly thanks to everyone who has answered my many questions so far. You are all a great help. To replace the block in my original engine ( rod through side!) I bought a 2nd hand 1098cc engine which had seized due to standing a long time. I've left it with diesel oil in the bores for a while and to...

Re: head markings resolved - which to use?
Thanks for the advice BMC. I'll stick with the 202. Will the rocker assby from the 1456 be ok on the 202? The shaft is in much better condition than which is on the 202.

Re: Recon or rebuild?
Yes I confirmed with the seller that all was ok when it left him. That only leaves the recovery company. I suspect it will be a waste of time trying to get them to admit liability though.

head markings resolved - which to use?
I asked earlier about difference between 12g202 and 12a1456 heads. I now find that the 12a1456 is a small valve from a 998cc engine. Since I have one of these heads all in good condition can I successfully fit it to my 1098cc bottom end? What difference, if any, could I expect in performance and fue...

Re: Recon or rebuild?
I only recently bought the car and it was running sweetly when I went to view it. I didn't drive it the 40 miles home since it needed the brakes doing. I therefore employed a local recovery company to bring it back for me. When it arrived here it did so not on a flat back truck as I expected but on ...

Head markings
I have 2 cylinder heads, I think both from 1098cc engines but not sure. One is marked '12G202' with a '7' beneath, the other is marked '12A' with '1456' beneath and '8M' underneath that. Can anyone please identify these?

Recon or rebuild?
Following a rod coming through the block of my Mog I obtained a 2nd hand block into which to rebuild the engine. I decided to have everything machined to make sure the job was right - rebore cyls, regrind crank, skim head, new valve guides, etc, etc etc. To cut a long story short with the cost of th...

Many thanks for your replies. I had guessed that in the absence of any marking it was probably standard. But it was only a guess. Now I know for sure. Cheers.
