Re: Engine mounting issues.

Ill try the tap on the pump, the fuel line is attached to the top port by the breather hose, which is the inlet, and was attached the same way on both carbs. I will double check but am fairly sure that is the correct line as its worked like that in the past. As far as I know the lower brass hose por...

Re: Engine mounting issues.

I would normally agree with you, but as always this has happened at a time when I really need the car, to get back home and help solve a few family issues. I'm only going to remove a few mm's from the chassis leg, maybe 10 at most. The fuel issue seems that the pump is not regulating itself its just...

Re: Engine mounting issues.

Okay so the engine turned over at that angle; it even ran, but not long enough for me to get the timing and mixture set. I have found that the fuel pump keeps running, and flooding the carb. I pulled the needle and damper unit and a fountain of fuel shot out and didnt stop until the ignition was kil...

Re: Engine mounting issues.

Hi mike, forgot to add, its a high torque starter as its a high compression engine with a maxed out valve head double springs and such. Its only just maybe 3mm to 5mm that needs clearing but the brake lines are too close to safely get an angle grinder in. Which is the main reason I haven't. Does any...

Engine mounting issues.

Hi I have a midget 1275 that I am fitting to a 1098 box. To make the starter motor clear the chassis I have needed toput a nut on the engine mount first and then attach the mount plates and bolt it down. everything turns over freely, although the engine hasn't been started yet. and I havent had a sp...

Re: Starting issues.

No challenge, just feeling frustrated by the car. No offence meant or taken, just as unlikely as it seems I had a similar switch issue in the past. where it stoped working, and then after pulling it out and it mysteriously came back to life. So have had my doubts about it. As I said I am struggaling...

Re: Starting issues.

Last time the old engine was on the rollers with a hif 38 as it wa sbeing run in it was at 90 bhp, with the bigger carb around the 100 - 110 bhp mark. Then when it was running a charger at the rear wheel it was around 40% higher again. This is the spare engine, as that one is out due to a leak in th...

Re: Starting issues.

I am aware of this , was not sure if you had the right end of the stick. The confusion has been why its suddenly occured in the first place, as the car did start and drive. the battery connections are solid, and clean. No issues there, battery has also been fully charged over night with a char...

Re: Starting issues.

Okay I pulled the starter, have found its eaten its split pin and the castelated nut has started to work loose. It also has broken the spring behind the nut. I then tested the starter on a jump pack and it span up, so it looks like a connection / earth as well as the broken sprin end. Although I may...

Re: Starting issues.

Hi I just charged the battery again, as a saftey margin, re connected and the igination light still lights up and turns off when the starter is pulled. I have Never said the lights go out, just mentioned the igintion and oil lights. After checking the fuses, (I have quite a few additions) I have now...

Re: Starting issues.

It was then, it stopped all together. so I am looking to pull it out and re check it. but that looks like a job for during the week now. I will keep you posted on what I find, but will bring the battery in and whack it back on the charger again, also to check that I am not suffering a random power d...

Re: Starting issues.

Hey guys, the ring gear looked fine, and I did try it on a few different sections so that dosent look like the issue. There is fuel, pump is ticking away happily. And power in the battery, and also the jump pack that was tried. Its the orginal minor starter motor, that has been with the car since I ...

Starting issues.

Hi, I havent worked on the minor for a while after the last 1275 swap as the weather has been cold and horrid. I finally got back to it today. I feared the head gasket was gone, so did a compression test, but got readings of 170 PSI on all cylinders so happy with that. Then reset the valve timings, ...

Re: Gear box issues.

Thats true, especially living in london, its not very kind to the clutch release bearing at all. Although I cant remember the state of the bearing when the last 1275 was put in the car about a year ago. Although the bearing wasn't replaced, and neither was the clutch. I have never had a issue with t...

Re: Gear box issues.

Hi Guys the clutch is mechanical still, no hydraulic conversion to the car, I haven't had a chance to check the gear box oil level, or the clutch linkage and free-play yet. But will when I can. I am just hoping that it is not a gear box out job as I have only just put the engine in and that was a ba...

Re: key rings

Maybe St christopher was saving you from traffic jams? doubtful but who knows, or you could have put an old man on the roof and forded a river?

As for the tight pants, I would look ridiculous! Haven't seen the advert, but should try to I guess. :)

Re: Gear box issues.

Hi Guys, its way worse than normal non synchro, I already am in the habit of 2nd first as the minor was my first car so the habit has stuck. The engine is a 1275 midget block with a new 1275 clutch and release bearing. and a 1080 box. I haven't measured the free play, but the pedal does feel strange...

Gear box issues.

Hi guys, I have just switched over engines again as I had to change the clutch and had some leaking issues with the current block, although it will be put back in maybe in the spring once fixed, and maybe with a 5 speed box depending on how the bank account is looking. (I have the box just need the ...
