Re: Engine and Rocker cover paint colours

Just a word of caution - not all Series 2 engines were painted in Morris Green. There seem to be quite a number of colours used and it does stimulate some discussion among the afficianados. I had an early grille S2 Traveller (July 54) whose engine was a blue-grey/green colour. If you have access to ...

Re: Head Gasket Replacement NEED HALP!

Minors are a great basic engine to learn on and, provididng you prepare properly and have the right tools, it is perfectly possible to tackle a change of head gasket. As advised, first check that it really needs to be changed - what are the symptoms? Perhaps posting these here will allow others to a...

Re: camshaft

Mmm - OK - one of the camshaft posts in this thread mentioned 'college' the other 'colleague'. I'm guessing now its colleague so I join the wise heads in saying best to consign that camshaft to Room 101 - never to turn and lift a valve in anger again - RIP

Re: camshaft

S'pose it depends what the college want it for - if its to show students what a camshaft looks like then fine - or, if it's to show students what a camshaft shouldn't look like then that's fine too. Would be very wary of actually using it in the car though! Maybe it can be converted into a lamp pede...

Re: camshaft 3

According to Dave Vizard - A series engine tuning guru in his book on the subject, the two rings confirm that the cam is a 12G 726 spider drive cam or 12G165 or AEA 630 pin drive cam (this was what was used on the Minor). As far as I am aware it has no preformance function - just identity. Others wi...

Interesting - might be a bit of a chore topping up your master cylinder (if you have no remote reservoir) and getting the steering rack greased/oiled!

Re: Help with chassis number

Not sure if it helps (and you've probably been there already) but this company seem to have quite a stock of different chassis/identification plates and associated stuff. as far as I can tell they do supply the blank plates but will only have them stamped if you can prove, via the logbook, that you ...

Should have said in my earlier post - welcome to the Forum! Hopefully you'll find us all very chatty and more than willing to share what we know (or sometimes don't) with anyone who needs to know. If you have a question - it's probably already been asked by someone and you can search the forum for t...

Re: FIRST MINOR

Not really possible to say just from a registration number. Depending upon the year the chassis number will confirm if it is a genuine convertible. Series MM's and Series 2's had a chassis number F (For Morris) A (4dr saloon) or B (2dr saloon) or C (Tourer/Convertible) L(Traveller from 1953) After m...

Re: NEC Car Show Video for Britain in a Day

It clearly wasn't causing you a problem - you were going well on the motorway :D. If it's still the original 1098 in your car it will probably be one of the late versions with the better crankcase breather. IMHO this was the best version of the 1098 and uber strong and reliable. My old late Travelle...

Re: NEC Car Show Video for Britain in a Day

Mmm definitely a dashboard warning light at 1:12 I think. Great video - well done! Pulling out of the service area was very Italian Job (original). Esp the bit where the car pips one of the Minors. Could have been on a car park roof in Turin...

Re: roy its never the coil

There was a good reason why I failed O level French!! I learned how ask for an appointment with the vet to treat my sick budgerigar but the oral exam situation role plays didn't extend to broken down Minors on the French motorway when the inept meddler (me) removed a perfectly good coil cos he liked...

Re: roy its never the coil

Mmm - reminds of an experience back in the day.... Young and inexperienced and coming home from MOT89 I had fitted an Intermotor coil to my convertible and had no idea that there were ballast resist coils around (or even what that would have meant if I had known). :D Managed to get all the way to La...

Type 'Roof sealing strip. Traveller' into search box at top right of screen and you should discover a post from 2007 where someone else has already done this - Good luck :D

Re: Head gasket

Have not done the mod yet for my 1275 engine/clutch but I think Mike Perry has. It appears quite simple - you just weld an additional inch onto your existing clutch relay shatft on the leg that attaches to the clutch pedal and then re-drill the hole on the new piece of the shaft. Again, I have not i...

Yes I thought that - there was an interesting piece about him on 'Victory by Design' a series with Alain de Cadenet on famous racing marques recently on Discovery. Apparently he loved the Bugatti blue and had all his cars painted in the same colour and they all carried his distinctive logo of a whit...

Mmm - a very good point  Sorry Sandun for taking that thread back to your carb. - good job Neil is on the ball!

As far as I know, there is still no glue to be used when refurbishing an SU fuel pump.
