Re: Seatbelt mounting bolt
It may look neater but is it better? Are you using a factory installed seat belt body mounting? The seat belt loading on this area of the body can be quite high in the event of a crash and unless you have a factory installed mounting position the mount could fail. Having the special bolt installed i...

Re: Fitting new drop links - what am I doing wrong?!
The male taper of the bottom fastening is not meant to fully enter the female taper of the damper arm.
So long as the spring washer and nut can be attached and the threads of the bottom fastening protrude through the nut and the nut is tight you cannot ask for more.

Re: DIY valve work
If you try and do either without the correct tools you have a high chance of ruining the head.
Even if you just intend to fit new valve guides you need to have the seats ground/machined concentric to the valve guide.
IMHO it is better to let the machine shop do the job and take the risk.

Re: Should the front chassis rail be spot welded or seam welded?
Cut the old spot welds out using a spot weld cutter and then puddle weld the new chassis rails to the remaining top part of the chassis leg through the spot weld holes. You end up with welds that are nearly as neat as single spot welds. I used this method when restoring the bulkhead on my Ser 3 Land...

Re: Lower Trunnion Removal
It could be either of the threads. The thread is of a flattened top 75% Whitworth form. If when dismantled you find the threads are sharp on the swivel then the swivel needs to be replaced along with the trunnions. Make sure that the seals are new and fit well. The Dorset MMOC produce a removable se...

Re: Lower Trunnion Removal
The bottom trunnion cannot be removed for examination without first removing the calliper, then the hub with disc, then the disc brake stone guard.
Once the above is removed the process of removing the swivel (king pin) from the bottom trunnion can begin.
Basically a complete strip down.

You should have no problems bleeding the clutch slave cylinder using the method quoted below. Undo the bleed nipple, press down the clutch pedal, tighten bleed nipple whilst holding the pedal down, let pedal back up, undo bleed nipple, press pedal down, tighten bleed nipple whilst holding the pedal ...

The upper door frame for a 2 door irrespective of year of manufacture is 31 1/2" wide at top of actual door.
Any other measurement is relative to van, pickup and 4 door saloon.

Re: Clutch
That looks to be a master cylinder of some sort mounted on the gearbox cross member.
I note that you have fiberglass gearbox cover. Non standard gearbox per chance?
The delivery pipe from the rear of the Minor brake master cylinder is lower right.

Re: Opening up a 202 head
The forged rockers were profiled and lightened. Back then there were no such thing as 1.5 rockers just forged and pressed steel. The engine was lively and would rev very well. The engine went on to be fitted into a racing Sebring Austin Healy Sprite. What are your improved cam followers about? I jus...

Re: Opening up a 202 head
The MiniMania article is interesting. I agree with the comment that the 12G202 head only needs a good clean up of the inlet and exhaust tracts to get better efficiency. The stage head fitted to the Mini Cooper? I have never come across one or having being aware of one being fitted ex factory other t...

Re: Lawnmower Carburettor Ethanol ?
My mower fitted with a Honda OHC engine started 2nd pull after standing all winter in the shed. The carb is fitted with a choke which helps. Most Honda engines fitted to lawn mowers have a float chamber drain facility or the ability to easily remove the float chamber to drain. After a summer of mowi...

Thanks for the clarification.
The angle of the classic Mini Cooper S HS 2 carb is slightly different to that of the MG Midget so I would suggest that the angle of the carbs is clarified as the float chamber fuel level could be effected

Re: Breather systems
The side seals must overlap the sump neoprene gaskets and they must abut hard against the main bearing caps.
That is why the side gaskets must be fitted first.
That neoprene seal looks to be too long.

Re: Breather systems
The problem with the neoprene seals is that they are near solid and cannot compress like the cork seal. The neoprene seals only appear to be available for the 1275cc engine and that has a larger radius rear sump opening so requiring a longer seal (Pt No: TAM1089) and different sump. The front seal f...
