Hubcaps

Hello,
Does any one know if there are hub caps that fit Minor wheels - that don't have the 'M' motif?

Re: Water pump - permissible play?

Thanks Phil, you gave me this advice in a post about a year ago and acting upon it I have obtained the later type cover with the lip oil seal - now that I will be sorting the timing chain, it will be fitted then and hopefully, cut down the amount of oil going onto the drive. I decided against the du...

Thanks for all the advice. The engine is a 948 in a 1957 saloon that is in daily use.

Water pump - permissible play?

My crankshaft pulley exploded whilst driving - throwing a large v-shaped piece up onto the underside of the bonnet, but amazingly, missing the radiator completely. The timimg chain was due to be changed when the weather warms up (I have to work outside) but It may as well be done now, seeing as I ha...

Overrider support bracket - help!

Belated Happy New Year to all. I removed the rear bumper, overriders, valance and mounting bar from our 1957 saloon. The bumper and overriders have been repaired and re-chromed. The valance was in a sorry state, so I bought a fibreglass one. Decided to brave the biting winds and refit the bumper, bu...

Re: Dipstick and crankshaft lock washer.

It appears then that the dipstick is original - there is no collar. The new lock washer was shown in the Moss catalogue as correct - it is the same as the one that came off - probably the same as the cam washer. I can now see how it will lock - it was the female cut out that was throwing me. I want ...

Dipstick and crankshaft lock washer.

A couple more questions that hopefully, someone can enlighten me on. On the dipstick on my engine there is nothing to stop it at the correct height on the block to determine the level. I have found a hard rubber thick washer that is a very tight fit on the dipstick - can anyone tell me how far from ...

Timing chain cover oil thrower.

Can anyone tell me which way the oil thrower on the small sprocket of the timing chain goes? The Haynes manual says to replace it the way it came off - on my engine the cupped side was facing the sprocket i.e. facing to the rear. The exploded diagram seems to show it facing forwards - which is corre...

Re: After-market rear crankshaft seal

Yes, I'm going to stick with the original set up. The oil pump cover is soldered, so should be ok. I assume that the tappet cover bolts are loctighted (Haynes states 2 ft/lbs) with a smear of Hylomar on the fibre washers?

Re: After-market rear crankshaft seal

Sorry, but my computing skills are not up to posting the fitting instructions, but here is the relevant paragraph verbatim. Remove the main bearing cap, take out the shell and clean it all thoroughly. Looking at the the main bearing cap you will see that the end face (fig 2) is not flat, it having b...

Re: After-market rear crankshaft seal

I took the 950 engine out of my minor to change the clutch - and while I was at it attempt to stop a couple of oil leaks one from the timing case and the other at the rear of the crankshaft. Reading that one of these oil seal kits would;'do the job once and for all' I bought one. On getting it home,...

Re: Hello - and demisting in early minor.

Plenty of food for thought. The heated screens route does seem very tempting - cost apart. It would have the least effect, in terms of keeping the car as original as possible. Point taken about using one at a time. Doris does have an alternator fitted - albeit in a very Heath Robinson manner, in ter...

Hello - and demisting in early minor.

Hello everyone. Although I have done a couple of posts, we have just returned to the fold, bought a Minor and joined the local branch, so I thought that a formal hello was appropriate. When I say returned to the fold what I mean is that I had Minors (Traveller, Van and Pick-up) in the past. However,...

Re: Anti Freeze

I have a boat which is used which is used for two 3 monthly periods each year and laid up for the other two. The engine is a Volvo marine diesel which is raw water (sea water) cooled and these are very prone to internal corrosion. Before leaving the boat, the engine is flushed with fresh water, then...

Re: Old Paper type licence

I hired a car in Greece in May 2012 - they accepted my paper license without question. Was stopped in Greece in 2011 in our camper and again, no problems with the paper license. As mentioned earlier re number plates in Germany, it appears that if something is valid in your home state, then it is val...

Re: Car Covers

Hi, I'm new on here. Not yet a club member, but thinking about it - not yet a Minor owner, but thinking about it. In the past, I've had a 2 door saloon, a van, a pickup and a traveller. They were'nt classics then - just everday vehicles. I always had a soft spot for moggies, so maybe, just maybe.......
