Re: A new project

Had a couple of hours on it yesterday, the rear wing is off and seems perfect with just a couple of small dents needing sorting out. The mounting flange has already been replaced but not very well there is some rusting around some of the welds where it looks like they have not painted the inside and...

Re: Restoration or modication? Felix

Its possible the chassis is sagging but more likely is the A pillar is crumbling. If you can lift the back of the door until it fits the apperture around the roof and is parrallel to the b pillar it is probably the A post.

Re: Boris 1964 2 door saloon

You will need to find out if the new paint is compatable with the old, try an area and see if it reacts, if all is ok and the exiting paint is in good condition, flat it back with something like 400 grit paper, prime, flat back with 800 grit then topcoat, severel thin coats are better than overdoing...

Re: Boris 1964 2 door saloon

Firstly buy a decent socket (my sets tend to end up with all the commonly used ones replaced with good quality hex sockets), heating the alloy case with hot air gun or blowlamp arond the plug may also help.

Re: A new project

Andrew polished up the chrome, most of it came up as passable. We have also now removed the glass and trim and cut the lower bodyside behind the door away which revealed the ususal corrosion and dodgy patches, there is a bit of rust around one of the rear quarter windows, but otherwise no great new ...

Re: A new project

and the sill, from the other resorations I have seen this looks pretty normal, interestingly the inner sill seems to have a wax coating and has hardly any rot, the jacking point fell off just after this!.[frame]Image[/frame]

Re: A new project

Started stripping down today, floors look pretty good, there are patches over the centre x member and in the rear corners which I will cut out and redo otherwise they are sound, the A pillars look fine on the outside but have obviously rusted inside so will need removing and re building, inner sills...

Re: A new project

Picked it up today, all went well, it's now currently sitting on my 4 post ramp, lesson 1 is don't prod too much on a rusty morris minor when your classic lotus is parked underneath! (fortunatelly no damage just mud / rust all over it). Frorm the initial inspection: -Floors / inner sills don't lok t...

Re: A new project

Looking at the pictures it has a dynamo, I have 2 or 3 17ACR alternators around, I assume they are what is normally used? What about brackets do I need parts from a midget or are there other sources which will do?. For the brakes I would rather keep them standard so this is the way we will go strip ...

It is a 69 two door in white, it appears to be 100 complete and I paid £460 for it, I figured I will probably need to replace all the usual rust ...
