Re: Various speedo questions

Thanks for the information gents, I see how the final drive is important! My speedo has since got stuck on 1,499.9 and the clicking I mentioned in my first post is now continuous. I've pulled the speedo and gone for a little drive, and I cannot stop the cable from turning with my fingers so I assume...

Re: What is this bracket thing on my engine? Standard?

Thanks for the pic, but my rocker cover does not have that pipe! So where should the pipe from the air filter connect?

Cheers, Matt.

Re: What is this bracket thing on my engine? Standard?

Sorry chaps but this has thoroughly confused me now (doesn't take much). Alan, you seem to be suggesting that I change my rocker cover?? Why would I do that when (I think) we've established I have a closed-circuit breather system? Chipper is suggesting that for my setup I need a vented cap, yet phil...

Re: Once in a lifetime opportunity

Here's a pic of my car at the 3 Lancasters day (that wasn't) on 2nd September. 'Just Jane' stands guard in the background. I have also added a link to my facebook album of the day so you get a flavour of what it was like. https://www.facebook.com/#!/bruce.kelsey.96/media_set?set=a.758048007586812.1...

Re: Various speedo questions

Sorry for the late reply, took me a little while to digest that. OK sounds like I need to have a look at the speedo. The speedo cable is also missing some of the outer plastic, so maybe oil is leaking out as well? I can't quite wrap my head around why the diff matters to the speedo? The cable attach...

Re: What is this bracket thing on my engine? Standard?

Thank you so much for the replies chaps, that's a lot clearer. So the presence of what I believe to be the oil diffuser suggests that it is a sealed system (referring to the green cylinder at the bottom of Alan's picture). And as Phil says the lack of breather on the rocker cover again points to thi...

Re: What is this bracket thing on my engine? Standard?

Thanks for the replies chaps. So when you say late style, does that mean its missing its breather pipe? I have to admit I'm slightly confused about my engine, I have read various threads and can't quite piece it together! If the rocker cover breather hole is missing, does that mean I have that close...

Re: What is this bracket thing on my engine? Standard?

Ah ha! By pure coincidence I am looking to put the original air filter back on the engine, brilliant. Thank you all.

So is it missing something other than the filter housing itself? Can I see a separate plate in that photo?

Cheers,
Matt.

Re: What is this bracket thing on my engine? Standard?

Hmm, beginning to think my engine might not be from a Traveller! It's 10V/190E/HXXXXX (where Xs are numbers).

What is this bracket thing on my engine? Standard?

I have a 1098 cc Traveller engine fitted to my Minor, and was wondering what this funny black bracket and what I assume to be lifting eyes are all about? Are they standard? I tried to leave them off but of course the rocket cover bolts bottomed out. Picture attached. Cheers, Matt.[frame] http://mmoc...

Re: Once in a lifetime opportunity

I saw the two Lancasters being excorted by a Spitfire and Hurricane at Wings & Wheels. It was amazing. Also seeing all the WW1 planes having mock dogfights, never seen anything like it.

Cheers,
Matt.

Various speedo questions

Hello all, I have some speedo questions please. Read a few bits on this forum already, but having trouble piecing it all together. Allow me to set the scene... - 1960 minor 1000 saloon with original speedo (I believe, how do I check?) - fitted with 1098 cc traveller engine with its gearbox (I believ...

Re: Cheapest source of motor oil (with API number) I have found

Seems I'm a little late to the party then! Yes sorry should have mentioned the API rating.

Good shout chesney, think I might ask my local friendly garage to see if they'd consider selling me some.

Cheers,
Matt.
