Re: Exhaust fit

Sorry Philthehill, bad reply. Exhaust from ESM Image and (if the image has loaded) you can see minimal clearance

Exhaust fit

Hi, Just bought a new exhaust as the old one was starting to crack but mostly because of poor fit. The old one kept hitting the inner bodywork where it passes through from the engine bay to under the car. The new one fits slightly better but still hits. Ive ended up dressing the hole larger using a ...

Thanks Les. I think I prefer your idea since it keeps it near original and may make it easier the crossmember was to be removed. Now to find a piece of plate....

Corrosion in chassis leg near rear crossmember mount

Removed the master cylinder today to replace with an OE version and noticed corrosion within the chassis leg near to where the crossmember gearbox mount is secured. This appears to have captive nuts in the chassis leg with bolts from underside. I was considering making a plate to fit within the chas...

Re: Door cards

i have redone my door cards using oil tempered hardboard and varnishing both sides twice to protect. then covered in thin foam (Woolies) and then vinyl bonded using Evostick and secured with staples. Very stable and secure. I did try marine ply but this was import Chinese stuff and very poorly made.

Petrol cap filler pipe

Is there a seal where the petrol filler pipe passes through the bodywork? On my saloon there is 1/32" gap all round and obviously water can pass through in to the boot area.

Re: TRE splitters and gaiters

With thanks to suggestions/comments to all who posted here. Steering gaiter replaced. Biggest 'problem' was getting the gaiter over the end of the rack through the access hole. The original clamp was a no no and a slim jubilee clip was the answer although I am sure a 'cable tie' would be easier. It ...

Passenger door card on a 2D

Hi, I am recovering my door cards on my 2D after the 'so called' marine ply failed and split (nice Chinese plywood, I think!!!) and have a question. The passenger door locking catch is difficult to turn as it rubs on the door card. Should the door card be cut around the locking catch or should the c...

TRE splitters and gaiters

Hi,
Doing a bit of routine servicing and discovered split steering gaitor. What is the best splitter to use to get the TRE off the taper? Also, any tricks tips in changing the gaitor apart from the obvious counting turns so tracking is not lost.

Re: Painting wheels - undercoating??

Hi, I did a similar thing on my rims (not removing the tyre) by sanding the rust, masking up and using an etch primer (U-POL 1K etch primer but others are available) Then I used an primer/builder and finally the top coat. Although I now have new rims the old ones are outside and still show no signs ...

Re: Hockey stick bolts.

Hi, I had a similar problem and agree with first reply, they are 2BA. If you are fortunate enough to find 2BA stainless (for originality) or use M6 (although M5 is closer in size) I fitted mine with a threadlock product (Loctite 270) to ensure the stud end was secure. Filing it flat, centre punching...

Brake issues

Hi, Some help required please. Car has failed MOT with both the offside front and rear (also parking) brakes being about half the efficiency of the nearside. Tester (who is Minor friendly) says its a good pedal and not spongy and it certainly stops well so NOT suspecting it needs bleeding.. I haven'...
