Re: Toque settings for MM head
I have chosen to torque my head and main bearing studs (both ISO Metric 10 mm. x 1.5 pitch) to 45 lbs/ft. I have based this on two things - I am using studs made from Vew V155 material (now Bolher V155) with a tensile strength of 1180-1380 N/mm squared which is equivalent to 'Unbrako' grade 10 with ...

An old inner speedo cable in a drill also makes a good tool for loosening crud and is very flexible.

Re: Adjustable rear hub seals..Whaaaaat????
C3 and C4 bearings are usually used in electric motors which are subject to full load when started. In the case of an AC synchronous motor this results in the rotor heating up very quickly and in the case of a DC motor the armature also heating up quickly. This heat is transferred along the motor sh...

Re: Adjustable rear hub seals..Whaaaaat????
This is exactly what I did to determine the gasket thickness. I had some 0.007" material at hand and made the gaskets from this. This resulted in the protrusion of the bearing outer race from the hub AND gasket at one side 0.002" and the other 0.003". These figures comply with the man...

Re: Sidevalve valve collets and guides
Rob When I looked at the paper I had written the sizes on I did a conversion. The sizes did not equate. The 12.025 mm. is correct both on the mechanical digital readout and the vernier scale. Checked the size again with the 0-1' mike and is definately 0.4374" which a close conversion. Looks lik...

As you will see I did not find much in your PM to enlighten me. However your above diagrams are spot on and substantiate what I have been saying for yonks.

To get the correst bearing protrusion beyond the hub plus gasket I had to use 7 thou paper gaskets. This gave a protrusion of 2 thou one side and 3 thou the other. These measurements comply with the MM shop manual. See my post above of Monday May 22 at 11:03 AM (second link).

Re: Adjustable rear hub seals..Whaaaaat????
Re my post above in the first link it outlines an axle failure experienced by 'Mainlander'. A bit of food for thought. That axle failure occurred after 5000 miles from when a new bearing was fitted, possibly with a gasket fitted that would not allow the proper clamping of the outer bearing race. The...

Rob and Phil It was me who advocated the use of 6207 2RS bearings for the rear hub. There were 2 threads on the subject. I have attached links to both. Bob http://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=58370&start=20 http://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=59113

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank
I have installed a remote M/C reservoir on my MM. The filler cap is replaced by a non vented cap with a copper washer for a seal. The new rear M/C blanking plug is replaced by one which is fed fluid from the reservoir and has similar copper washer seals. These fittings I made from phosphor bronze. T...

Re: electric fuel pump
I have a rear mounted SU fuel pump with a rubber insulated mounting. It can be hardly heard when the ignition is switched on without the motor running. See 21A632, 21A750 and AUF214R in the link. Perhaps Burlen can supply similar in the UK.

Re: genuine Morris Minor distributor ?
I have attached another link. The only possibility is listed as 40561 with CCW rotation. All of the other 40561 variants operate clockwise which would eliminate them.

The nearest listing in the link is for a 40561J/L fitted to Austins, Sprites and Morris. Not an exact match to a 40561L. Seems a bit of a mystery.

I have increased the clearence to 3 inches by cutting one inch from the bump stop rubbers to give increased suspension travel. However it is important not to just cut off the top of the stop but to maintain the original taper so as to provide progressive compression of the rubbers as was originally ...

The oil pressure connection at the rear of the block on an MM is 1/8" x 28 TPI BSP. Richard's (Islip Minor) thread table at the top of the mechanical section lists the oil sender thread as 1/8" NPT 27 TPI obviously for the A Series block. It would pay to remove the fitting supplied by Ware...

'NOT MY EXPERIENCE AT ALL' I fail to see how my age is relevant to the flashing rate of a blinker can. Some modern cans are not bi-metalic switched but have their flashing rate determined by a solid state timing circuit instead. These cans will operate at the same speed regardless of the load connec...
