Pretty good I'd say PeterJohn Naylor wrote:Sorry, only just spotted your reply. The curing date on the 4 tyres is 3814, i.e. about Sept/Oct 2014, so not too bad considering shipment from Japan and delivery to depot. I suppose the Japanese are applying 'Just In Time'!

Re: jumping out of 3rd
I didn't know it was possible to put 1098 in a 948 box. It's hard to say which lever should be used - if the 1098 selector rods were used, then I guess the 1098 lever should be used. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MORRIS-MINOR-SMOOTH-CASE-REMANUFACTURED-GEARBOX-STRONGER-1098-GEARTRAIN-FITTED-/2717733823...

Re: What carb?
Within the context, the Marina 1300 still has a spin-on filter attached to the block, like an 803. A photo is much more useful, if we can see the filter by the dizzy, it's an 803 block. Simply supplying a link is not specific enough, theoretically all engines can have spin-on filters with little mo...

Re: Labyrinth
Technically it can be called a return thread, a labyrinth and a/the scroll. The return thread has a start and a finish so it is a thread, it is a square cut thread which causes the oil to be baffled and the scroll/thread winds the oil back into the rear main cap/upper half cap where it then drains ...

Re: What carb?
Not exactly, as per my post, the Marina also had a spin-on filter on the block. Not to mention the 'Mini' spin-on conversion to the 'remote' system, so simply asking if the engine has a screw-on filter may not be accurate. Hence the request for a photo, which would be indisputable. Oh dear things c...

Re: What carb?
Well, yes. The 803 uses a spin-on filter down near the distributor. The 948/1098/MG1275 (of course) has a 'remote' filter housing and a canister paper element type filter down by the sump. The Marina 1300 has the oil filter fitted on the block by the heater valve. Thanks :-) So is it correct to say...

Re: Is it time for new wheel cylinders?
The original pistons don't have a seal as such - the seal is a rubber 'bucket in the cylinder. Pity about the fluid level...... To be honest I'm not completely sure about the 'working day' rule - but certainly that's the way my local plays it. He even helpfully pointed it out to me one time, when I...

It is the scroll on the back of the crankshaft which should throw the oil back into the sump, provided that the engine ventilation system is working correctly Please will you explain that a bit more? Especially exactly where this roll of papyrus can be found? And how one can tell the back of a cran...

Re: Is it time for new wheel cylinders?

Has anyone had any success with a Brake Honing tool? Doesn't cost the earth. https://www.cromwell.co.uk/KEN5032940K Yup, plenty ;-) But not with Cromwells. I staple a length of 1/4" thick foam to a 1/2 dowel. About 4ft of dowel. Wind some fine wet and dry round the foam. I start the W&D in...

Re: Is it time for new wheel cylinders?
Thanks for the replies Katie and Gents, the cylinders are well gunked up and jammed up only one side, but that's without the pressure of the drum being fitted. So I may still be barking up the wrong tree.[frame] Does anyone know the effect of Gunk on brake seals. I suspect it does irreparable damag...
