Re: flex in floor
So middle cross member first then! Bit more work than I was after, but guess thats the way of things. I thought I had done everything right. Checked previous owners and history file, with work from a supposed reputable specialist. Went over usual rot areas with magnet checking for metal. lifted carp...

Re: flex in floor
Um! Didn't think middle cross member was that bad although has had welding around floor. Wares did the sills not sure who did the chassis. I will take to garage to have proper look. Wares wanted £600+ for the middle x member. Rather wish I hadn't started this but I guess in some ways better to know ...

Re: flex in floor
:-? This is what i found when removed the black crap off. I don't think its too structural just a bit of patch welding then rust treat and paint over. What do others think? Do I replace the front N/S chassis or leave for another day when really 'gone'.[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=14602...

Thanks Don,
Yep just found the thread! Will try again. Mind you I may give it to my daughter to do as don't really get these things, I remember thinking the Sinclair ZX81 was complicated

Re: How to prevent rust
Thanks biomed, have scrapped off about 3/4 of one side. Interesting what you find hiding under the crap. Has had some serious welding done to sills to a fair standard. Cross member is a bit ropey but solid, although someone and used filler to cover the rust! Wiring loom is frayed but wires look inta...

Re: Swapping sealed beams to halogen
Have you tried your 'bad' bulb in good bulb side? If still doesn't work its the bulb - simples. If does work then manyminors is prob right its likely a connection problem.
Cheers

Re: flex in floor
Trip to screw fix it is, I have so far managed to clear of about 1/2 of drivers side, using a chisel and elbow grease (as seems best way).Plus a bit of white spirit for the gunk, which is a real pain to get off. Also cheeky b****ers have used it to fill in holes where I'm sure there should be weld, ...

Re: flex in floor
Jacking car on back axle and then on axle stands. Front is also jacked on front cross member and onto axle stands with wood to spread load. Whole floor appears original with no welding but does feels thin, but I think this may just be typical for a Minor!? So I am ok to use heat gun, not likely to c...

Re: flex in floor
Wish it was waxoyl, I'm afraid it is underseal over a rubbery white filler compound from welded areas. Was going to leave alone but rust was showing through so thought better clean off and have a proper look. Real pig of a job, struggling to get it off. Using blunt chisel and various scrappers; trie...

flex in floor
Hi, I am currently cleaning of the horrible black stuff and mastic from under my moggy (has had welding of sills with Charles Ware so should be ok), however the floor is really flexing a bit like tin. No rust through the floor, and is all attached as should be. I know moggies were never the most rob...

How to prevent rust
Hi, I have read various threads and still bit confused re how far I need to go with underside and inner wings of my 1968 minor. No way is it concours or ever likely to be, but is essentially sound. Has had welding done but to reasonable standard, and then covered in a black rubbery type paint then w...

axle question
Hi,
Quick questions:
(A) Am I safe to jack my moggy under the diff housing where the drain plug is, then use axle stands either side of diff. Or do I need to jack each side separately under the suspension?
(B) What plug spanner do I need to get the drain and filler plugs out?
Cheers
Rob

Re: wiper blades and exhaust
Great thread really interesting ideas. I went down route of new clamp from ESM - fab, works really well as dale and bidz have found. Did cheat a bit used a bit of gun gum, just to be really sure. I found replacing the exhaust support straps helped as well, time will tell! The exhaust support that De...
