Re: Won't start
I agree with the comment about not disturbing the distributor drive shaft. It is very easy to drop it into the bottom of the engine when fitting it. Dont ask me how I know !!!!!!!!!! My mini 850 engine taught me a very valuable lesson in this respect many years ago when I was a teenager, the instru...

Re: Won't start
For information, the distributor drive shaft is retained within the engine, but the bottom end comprises a kind of worm drive, and so can be fitted in one of several positions. This can affect the final position of the dizzy; but as your original setup was working, do not try to change the position...

Re: Won't start
I am most certainly not a ‘professional car mechanic’. But I doubt it would take me more than half an hour to check out and isolate a problem with the Kettering system. It may take a little longer to replace the relevant bits, dependent on circumstances. So, so much for your ‘professionals’! Find a...

Re: Won't start
So you are now on your third electronic ignition unit??? Looking back through this thread you don’t appear to have carried out/reported back on most of the tests suggested, nor answered many of the questions put to you. When a car was running OK and then won’t start, the probability is that it is a...

Re: Won't start
Seems to becoming more and more confusing. Had a mobile mechanic come out and he said that the contactless ignition was not working. I got onto Accuspark who send another receiver and rotor arm and fitted this to no avail. I then had a couple of mechanics look at it from the home start cover we have...

Re: Won't start
Currently battery on charge to make sure I have the most juice as possible, then try again when it stops raining! Engine was turning with jump leads attached but wouldn't fire up. What volts / amps do I need from the battery to be at it's optimum?

Re: Won't start
Hi Have you solved your problem yet? I have recently rebuilt my engine and had to set it up from scratch.I found the best advice here was reduce the possible faults ie.set the static timing.do the tappets, clean and set plugs, she runs. I live ln Eynsford, if you need a hand I am willing to come over...

Re: Won't start
thanks, a bit more spannering then! checked the new dizzy for compatability -Accuspark confirm it is replacement for Lucas 25/45D and correct for a 1960 Minor 948. You don't happen to know any mobile old school mechanics in the Dartford area, who could take a look?

Re: Won't start
Managed to get her going, stripped down the points fitting and re-fitted, convinced that the plastic top hat on points was not isolating the connections correctly. Ran for three days without hitch at all then she has stopped again. May have to dis- assemble the points again and try again, is there a...

Won't start
You must get this a lot but here goes, Morris Minor1960 saloon, stock 948 engine, battery strong holds charge well. Been running for quite a while then started to play up a bit, replaced the following. Fuel pump, coil, spark plugs, ht leads, dizzy cap all worked well, then intermittently felt like r...

Re: FUEL PUMP ???????
I am having similar issues with mine, runs fine for a while then stops pumping or it seems to. if I turn off he ignition and wait a while I can turn it back on listen for the ticking and restart. thinking about replacing it with a universal small pump (seen on ebay £12-36) as an alternative, has any...
