Re: Track rod ends

Well I've never had all mine apart to that degree, but looking at it logically, I would say everything you have there is hanging down too much and the Front Suspension height, off load, should be correctly set before attaching the Steering Rack. Set the Torsion Bar as per K.3 in the Workshop Manual....

Re: Pull starter

The Pull Start is simply you pulling against a spring pressure to manually close a set of heavy duty contacts. You could try a little electrical contact cleaner on the 'button' part of the mechanism (on the switch under the bonnet, not on the Pull Sw in the car) to see if that seeps down the shaft t...

Re: split personality wiper arms

Be careful, the wipers posted by Old jalopy will be the right length but they are effectively Mini wipers which will wipe the screen effectively as the springs are great. The trouble is that they tend to foul on the bonnet when it is opened. There are plenty of original Series III wiper arms availa...

Re: Dual/Split Personality Register

One possibility is that the original purchasers of these vehicles stipulated that they wanted gloveboxes fitted, and if the dealers were happy to oblige there may only have been a handful of these particular cars with this combination of features....... Yes, they were available as spare parts, so a...

Re: Dual/Split Personality Register

I'm just going by the details in the AKD 3542. Unless someone can provide definitive proof that the Parts Manual is wrong, and let's face it for many years that's how people brought parts (so you'd like to think the details are correct) by providing their car number, glove box covers were discontinu...

Re: Dual/Split Personality Register

What is this info based on? Well here's an infographic I made last month and posted to facebook, basically because there were so many posts about glovebox covers... I made this up by using the car number details for change points, given in the original Parts Manual. So as your car is Oct 62, that's...

Re: Ad removal?

I’m not sure if it can be edited. For some long standing reason, apparently not to upset a seller, a reply is not possible, otherwise another post could be added with the required withdrawal message. Personally I think this ‘no reply’ is counterproductive, however that’s the way it is. Hi Les Yes, ...

Can you not Edit it, to say no longer for sale?
If you can't, then contact ' simmitc ' using the Private Message facility on the top right.

Re: Dual/Split Personality Register

Many of our old cars are not as original as we like to think are they. Very true, from the limited documents I have, I've worked out that it was as late as 1999 when a PO decided to fit indicators when fitting a new loom, and chose to fit the interim '61-'63 style.... which probably makes him fairl...

Re: Flasher Unit Connections

4 way flasher units which operate both the flashers AND the hazard lights have been around for donkeys years  Yes, for OE use, designed to do both at build. Hazards were offered in the USA in the 50s but not mandated in the UK until 1986. What I meant was Hazards certainly weren't a common fe...

Re: Flasher Unit Connections

I cannot possibly imagine a combined Indicators & Hazards Flasher in one unit 40 years ago. I'm not even sure they'd do it now. The most plausible '4th connection' is a separate Earth. However, it might be that the original owner at some time fitted a Flasher Unit made for a car with a pair of '...

So my upper guess was close Phil , when I was a mechanic we used to call them "too late lights" I think it's fairly common that the Pressure Switch for the light is going to be a fair bit lower that the pressure at Idle speed. You don't want it flickering like the Ign Light does whe...

On the grease question, in recent years I've brought a couple of tubs/tins.
The earlier purchase, the tin (I forget the brand), didn't have one, the more recent plastic tub (Comma) did.

Re: Fitting new drop links - what am I doing wrong?!

The male taper of the bottom fastening is not meant to fully enter the female taper of the damper arm. So long as the spring washer and nut can be attached and the threads of the bottom fastening protrude through the nut and the nut is tight you cannot ask for more. As illustrated in the photo I po...

Thanks for your advice, I am going to move the car out of my garage and put it in my carport so I have a bit more room and more light, I have only had the car a matter of weeks and I'm still finding my way around it, I want to go through everything before I take it on the road. Thanks again. :tu1: ...
