If it needs new grease replace the grease.
It will pay off in the long run.
We do not know what skills people have so should not judge whether there will be trouble ahead or not.

Re: Advice on brakes

I agree with everything said about 8" drum brakes on a standard Minor BUT fit disc brakes and reduce maintenance time and, probably, cost. Who wants to be freeing off/renewing brake cylinders every year or so and carrying out regular adjustment to stop on the proverbial sixpence? Now, who will ...

Barrie, seems a very useful product. Is it easy to sand or does it dry flat ready for the top coat?

Have you tried rolling a two-pack top coat which would be ideal paint solution for DIYers?

Good work, keep the photos coming!

Re: Welding - underside - thoughts?

10 years ago I was working for a small south coast garage, at 37.50 plus VAT we were considered cheap. Have prices really gone backwards? So lets take one repair and look at what has and could be done simply to pass an MOT. For arguments sake lets say that front spring hanger. The current repair A ...

Re: Diesel air pollution

That's my big beef with so called emission free cars, the pollution produced to power them is just shifted somewhere else - and the crap produced in the manufacture of the batteries is horrendous, lakes of poisonous effluent seeping into the ground and the battery packs have to be changed every few...

Bores were just good enough to get away with new rings, ideally should have had a rebore but no excessive oil consumption so far.

Re: Re-profiling an S U needle

I have not tried the EP 90, perhaps BMC can post me a table spoonfull :D but I did top up the carb dash pot which improved things a little. Fuel consumption, 1275cc with HIF 44 carb, around 30mpg on a long run keeping up with nearly all the moderns. Local journeys and towing 8cwt trailer much worse ...

To complete this thread: Marina flywheel fitted and new clutch plate and thrust bearing. Have completed 800+ miles and no problem so, should be ok for the long term :D (Hope I'm not tempting fate :o ) Very pleased with the engine, quite a change from the tired Marina engine. Out of interest I tested...

Re-profiling an S U needle

Have just fitted a 1275 Midget engine running a HIF 44 carb, I have adjusted the jet and the engine pulls well but seems lacking in power at very low revs ie hesitates slightly when pulling away NOW, any advice for using emery cloth on the needle where it goes into the top of the jet at idle. Would ...
