Breather issue ???

Strange one. I had a problem with rough running when at high revs. I removed carb and cleaned carb etc. Replaced carb, connected (nearly) everything back up. Started ok. Checked Timing, running too advanced so retarded it. Checked with strobe vacuum advance and bob weights seem to be working fine. C...

Re: Fuel starvation?

1. Fuel flow tested and ok 2. Carb float chamber clean 3. Fuel mixture seems OK by checking plugs...might be a little lean 4. No leaks apparent. Doesn't have a pcv, tube from the fixed metal canister attached to valve chamber cover, goes from that canister to a port on side of carb. Still hesitates ...

Fuel starvation?

1970 traveller. Runs well except.....when accelerating in 3rd gear, it is as if it is not getting enough fuel, coughs and hesitates until I change up to 4th. Recently, it has started to exhibit similar 'starvation' issues randomly when idling, pulling choke out prevents it from stalling but runs ver...

Fuel problem

I have had several breakdowns resulting from fuel pump failing. As usual, a bang with a spanner got pump working again. But, it got to think about a short term temporary solution to 'get me home'. To this end, as a test, I temporarily rigged up 1 litre plastic motor bike fuel tank about 10 inches ab...

Hazard indicators

I guess this has been asked before, but..... I want to fit a hazard warning light setup. I am reasonably competent with electronics/electrics so I am pretty confident I could lash up a solution using 555 timers switches and relays etc. But....I don't wish to reinvent the wheel so if someone has a so...

Advice please, new owner, hiding contents of Traveller

Not sure if I pressed the 'submit' button, so try again. Apologies if I have double posted. When out and about in my 1970 traveller, anything I carry in space behind rear seat is visible to all and sundry ....including low life who might be tempted to break in and steal it Obviously I can cover item...

Clutch problem...fade ?

Clutch works fine, no slip etc When engine cool, (first 10 miles or so) clutch action is fine. However, when engine fully up to temp, I seem to have to depress clutch further, hard to floor, to avoid crunching when going into first. I think i have clutch rod adjusted correctly, it's as if the clutch...

Fuel pump question

My fuel pump is fine (1970 travelor) but I have a spare pump so I thought I would fit that temporarily to check that it worked for use sometime in the future. It works fine.....with one issue....when engine has been running...swith off ignition to stop the engine. When ignition is switched back on, ...

Re: Elusive missing problem

Thanks for advice, I think I have found the fault....the replacement points set I fitted.....were faulty, the movable arm binding on its pivot at random intervals. Refitted old set of points...problem fixed !. A secondary issue I have is....plug colour suggest mixture is lean. Lifting pin causes eng...

Re: Elusive missing problem

New dist cap and rotor arm already changed. I will retard ignition a little and check if any difference. Could running too lean cause similar problem, new plug centre elecrode very white, old plugs were cream to chocolate before I routinely changed them, same type of plugs.

Elusive missing problem

I have recently acquired a 1098 1970 traveler. Runs fine except.....annoying engine miss when labouring, just before changing down say from 4th to 3rd gear. When engine is running freely on flat etc, no problem, missing only appears when engine is lightly laboured. I have sequentially changed all th...

Good point......I will leave it a few days .....in case it is residual and recheck. Level drops very very slowly, if at all.
