Re: 1.4 Zetec Project

I guess there will be a fair bit of research gone into the manifold, I would spend some time with a tape measure to make sure it will clear the damper as it looks fairly low down. The VR doesnt suffer from this as its quite tall and the inlet manifold is laid over the rocker cover. It would be a res...

Re: 1.4 Zetec Project

Should be a good project. Im liking the interior, whats the rear bench out of? That engine looks nice and compact. the coil pack can probably be moved, but you will need to earth it to its original mounting. Then I would be tempted to either: -route one coolant pipe down each side of the engine or -...

Re: Pickup restoration part three

you can get a slide switch from maplins for next to nothing! in this pic you are missing the rubber ring round the loom where it comes through the bulkhead, judging by the screws, it looks like you already have the triangle on there. http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1312400966_9563 dont forget the...

Re: Potential damge from misconnecting the battery

... but seriously if the wires have smoked, they have got HOT and the insulation may be compromised. if one of the wires that has smoked goes to the alternator then it may be an unfused line which could potentially be dangerous. If an unfused power cable touches earth, you will get a nice "one ...

Re: Which weld lap or butt

another way to get the right size is to place some material behind where you would like to repair and then squirt some cheap paint around the join (I use a zinc primer that contrasts to the panel colour), then cut 1mm outside the line that it makes. When you have to weld and there is a gap, try back...

Re: Discs dragging?

if you have a dial indicator, it could be worth checking the discs for runout, check your wheel bearings too. if there is any lateral movement then it can "knock" the pads back into the calipers.

I would be worried about the first long stroke.

Re: 1970 Trav "IGOR" (modified) PIC HEAVY! fuel lines in!

Right then... Progress has been a bit slower than I would have liked so my 1000th post will be a bit more sedate than I had hoped. I have been doing a lot of faffing recently so not too much to report, bit of a recap on some items: the coil pack is mounted and the engine covers are on so its looksin...

Slightly OT but would this engine fit in the minor? there are a few discussions surrounding this at the moment.

It worked for me - and I'm not the one with the broken wrist....... Obviously it's important to understand what you are doing when working on any mechanical repair - I guess you had to learn the hard way with that T bar..... :o I do say that I have compressors for my TR7 springs - even then - one o...

Cool, well you've designed everything else eh! Why not your shox. stevie :D I do my best :D Sounds expensive! surely this is a better time than any to make the car fit a readily available off-the-shelf unit for ease of replacement in future. likewise, i'd recommend you keep a good list of whe...

Re: renewing eyebolt bushes?

No -it works - or at least it worked for me when I had to change the front springs on a Fiat Panda a good few years ago. I do have compressors for the slightly heavier springs on my TR7..... You need a compressor to change the springs on a strut???? I just wedge them under a bench and hold the spri...

Re: 1970 Trav "IGOR" (modified) PIC HEAVY! Ancilleries going on!

it's a bit weird having the pivots in 2 different axis isn't it? why not have the top pivot 90 degrees out, so that it's in line with the bottom pivot, and the whole suspension axis? will there be enough give in the bushes to allow for the damper movement? I might take a look at mounting the top mo...
