Re: I need to buy a new battery
Thanks for all your suggestions. Checking out the options, I've decided to buy a Lucas battery from Tayna Batteries https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/# They have a Lucas Calcium battery very similar to the one I'm replacing. It is a better spec than my original and is offered at a very good pric...

I need to buy a new battery
The Lucas Calcium battery which has been on my Minor for well over 13 yeas has finally given up. I would like to replace it with a similar Calcium battery, but I don't know where to buy one from. I'm a bit out of touch with buying batteries for cars. I would welcome suggestions. I think that Lead ac...

Re: change of email address
Many thanks for this, I've successfully changed my address now. I'd forgotten about the user control panel, it's easily missed!

Re: Front hubs and wheel bearings
Further thoughts, it was the nearside on my car which had the problem. The offside was no problem. I wonder if they are all like that?

Re: Front hubs and wheel bearings
Yes, this is exactly what I found. So what is the answer? take the new swivel pins and axles back to the supplier? I've bought a micrometer since I had the problem.

Re: What engine oil should I use
Thanks for this, it's looking like 20/50 is the best option, although it's been pointed out that this is in fact multigrade. I think the main point is that the additives in many modern oils may be harmful to classic cars and I should choose a 20/50 which is formulated for older or classic cars.

Re: What engine oil should I use
Yes I've seen Coma on ebay and wondered about using it it. I think very often one is paying for the name, but have no way of proving it. I read somewhere on the internet that all the additives in all the oils in the world are made by just two companies.

What engine oil should I use
This might seem a silly question and I've been changing oil in cars for about 50 years, but its all changed now with all the fancy oils around. My engine seems to rattle after I put some everyday multi grade oil in that I'd bought from Wilkinson's.Ii just wondered what oil club members are using in ...

Re: Odd swivel pins
Yes, its better to pay a bit more and get something which is up to the job, the same with garden tools. Where can I find the correct sizes of the various parts of the minor?

Re: Odd swivel pins
Certainly some hardening process can cause swelling - usually corrected afterwards with a light grind to size. Micrometer is the only answer i'm afraid. A vernier caliper is ok for general measurements - but not accurate enough ('verynear caliper'..) for fine work like that. Can you recommend what ...

Re: Odd swivel pins
I checked for burrs but I could not see or feel any. Do you think that the case hardening process could cause some distortion to the machined part? It would not take much to cause the bearing not to fit. I'm sure the file had little impact on the surface because of the hardening. There may have been...

Re: Odd swivel pins
It is easier said than done to send it back. I've found these days that companies have such an inflated opinion of themselves that they simply cannot accept that they can ever get anything wrong. complaining about bad service invariably results in them going on the offensive and being aggressive in ...

Re: Odd swivel pins
I have used Locktite Bearing Fix on the rear hubs and it is brilliant. I know this is going off topic , but it is part of the same thing really. When I first got my present Minor, it kept failing the MOT because of play in a rear bearing. replacing the bearing made no difference as the bearing was s...

Re: Front hubs and wheel bearings
No, now that I've rebuilt the hub a couple of times, it is obvious how the spacer fits and which bearings are inner and out as they are different sized and can only be fitted one way. On examining the bearings they are marked "thrust" side. The difficulty now, if you are following the thre...
