Cheers for the positive comments a la Triumph. All you need to do is: Fit new shocks with the uprated and 1" lowered springs, front and rear anti-roll bars, couple of polybushes.... sorted. My plans for this one: the bits above, debumper, fit Rover 1/2 leather front seats, 2 new front wings, ti...

Not entirely sure what the good points are. We have no british car industry to benefit. It fails to target the clapped out old bangers that the drivers can't afford to repair/maintain/tax/mot/insure anyway and targets most of the loved older cars that we like to see. If I'm wrong fair enough, but th...

Still here!!! Have been pretty busy but have managed to crack on with the removal of the horrible chassis rail. http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s96/purplebargeken/010-7.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s96/purplebargeken/012-7.jpg [/img]http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s96/purplebargeken/...

As per the sensible advice from folk on the forum, I have taken delivery today of a replacement full chassis leg, jacking point and crossmember end plus various bolts, nuts and poly bushes. Now that the torsion bar is off (thanks Darren), I can remove the rusty chassis leg, tidy it all up and make s...

I was on the Triumph Dolomite Club stand helping to replace the front end and some doors on a Vermillion coloured Sprint. Lots of hard work went into that and we managed to get second prize. Loads of people showing an interest and asking questions. Gotta be a good thing. The stalls were disappointin...

Oh Feck!
Yes, I will be welding that far back.
No

Is there anyone local to Enfield/North London that knows how to do this (the torsion bar bit) without killing themselves, me or the car!!

Petrol and pasties supplied..... HELP!!!! I can't afford 'professional' input on this.

Ok, had a big long think about this one. The cunning plan is this: Cut out the old rusty remnants of the chassis leg. Dress it all up for fitting of the new panel. However, before I do this, I obviously have to remove the tie rod, and unbolt the suspension bits further back. The thing is what the he...

What you say makes sense. Better to do a proper job. I will get the top end finished and then sort out the underneath. The panel isn't that expensive.

Plug weld or continous weld?

I co-organised the Triumph London to Brighton Run this year and we had hoped for Madeira Drive, however, the local council wanted £15,000 to block off the Drive. This is roughly equal to the parking revenue for the day. We declined, but parked up at the end anyway. The only folk who complained were ...

All prepped for the welding now. Went down to the garage and put on the final coats of primer in readiness for the top coat. I then decided to have a go at the bootlid to see how bad it was. The main problem is that on the lower right and left corners (up to the recess for the number plate) there wa...

Saloon Chassis Rail

Hi. I need to fabricate a repair section for the n/s chassis rail on my saloon. I have access to 1.2mm, 1.5mm and 2.0mm thickness steel. Which is the most suitable for the repair.

I enjoy fabrication, so that is no problem. Just unsure which thickness to use.

Thanks

More work done today. Have derusted and cleaned up some rusty bits on the n/s front chassis rail, the o/s jacking point and the o/s inner sill. The floor needs a couple of small patches 2" x 1". All rustproofed and have fabricated the appropriate templates a la a handy Crunchy Nut Cornflak...

Back again! Been hyper-busy these last couple of weeks on the Triumph. Went down to the garage this afternoon and hammered out the palm sized dent in the front n/s wing, all taken down to bare metal and rust-proofed. Have filled what was left and roughly shaped it. Not looking too bad actually. Just...

I also find the small stick on LED lights to be quite useful for boot interiors. I've used them on the Triumph and my old Landy with good effect.
