Re: Puddles
Ok..... After two years of pretty good motoring it is time to upgrade a few items..... Namely the engine, carbs and gearbox from an MG 1275 replacing the 1098 units which will then be placed into my saloon........ I'll also be re-bushing the front suspension with poly, and possibly new front seats.....

Re: What the heck was that!
Hi, I have an axel, surplus, in the shed. Complete unit, diff and halfshafts. It's been stripped so if you can get an idea as to which bit you want, diff or half-shafts, then come and get them..... Point to mention here it's a 948 diff so won't give you a great cruse on the motor way, but it is free...

Re: Socket sets
If you have the money and want to invest in a single socket set one name to look out for is Metrinch. They are sold by RS and don't come cheep. I was bought one a number of years ago and it has given me faultless service ever since. It uses rounded edge sockets and spanners to grip the nut / bolt by...

Cheers guys.... In the end, after much replacing of parts, it's all sorted. I'll post pictures and details in a new thread..... On another point.... (pardon the punn).... What brackets do I need to mount a Lucas Alternator instead of the dynamo? I understand a 'long bolt' will do the job as a tempor...

Splutter - Splutter.....
Hi.... My wonderful traveller has just started exhibiting the classic signs of an over-rich mixture. IE: car dieing when the throttle is used. Under normal circumstances I've have re-adjusted it but it happend when I was at the in-laws yesterday evening, only there for a few hours, drove there ok bu...

Re: Another Year.....
Thanks for the comments guys, it is the Family run-about. I do get some people wonder why we drive it instead of a modern but they don't get the smiles and waves we do...... I was reminded today at work that she probably went through so easily as I spend a weekend every couple of months sorting all ...

Another Year.....
The Traveller passed it's MOT on Monday, so here starts another year of Family classic motoring... Last year we did 10,000 miles in the old girl who just needed a few little tweaks, brake adjusting etc, for the test. She seems to have developed a small problem with the fuel pump and wants to cut out...

Re: Switch or Lights...???
Cheers guys, despite being an original switch it had died. Strange that it appeared to work with the metre.... It's been replaced currently with the one off of my saloon, again an original unit with screw terminals.... If the re-pro ones are bad any sugestions where I can get a good replacement...??...

Switch or Lights...???
I've got an issue with my brake lights, they do not come on when I put my foot on the pedal. They do come on when I take off the connectors and short them together When I connect a multimetre to the switch and depress the break pedal the resistance drops to near zero, with the 'buzz' from the metre....

Re: Nintendo DS & DSi XL
Does anyone know if the DSi XL uses the same game cartridges as the old DS Lite please? For DS games, yes, but there is no Game Boy Advanced slot in the DSi or DSi XL. This mean some games, like guitar hero that used the GBA slot for the coloured buttons, will not work. This only affects a small nu...

Re: Spitfire engine??????
owning and working on both of these on a regular basis I can recommend staying with the a series. You can get a 1275 and tweak it up a little it will give you basically what the 1500 does on the Spitfire.... As for fuel economy I get about the same from both the Traveller and the Spitfire, but the S...

Hi Ian,
What about a mechanical one from a mk3 / early mk4 spitfire? you'd need to fix the cable so you can drive it from the lathe but would be easier than an electrical option....

Re: what other hobbies do minor members have ????
My hobbies, Retro Computing, I have a comprehensive collection from the ZX81 to the Commodore Amiga, but this is waning now in favor of my retro motoring. wood working, mainly tuning. my three cars, two minors and a triumph. and my two boys and better half keep me occupied. I also collect anything r...
Re: Oil Gauge
Thanks for that, I suppose I could shorten the pipe but the ends are air tight and I'm unsure how I would re-make then during the shortening process.... Any ideas anyone?
Oil Gauge
I've just finished fitting an oil gauge, Smiths with a T piece and a long black pipe. All looks to be working well but I have a simple question. There was way too much black pipe so I've coiled it up and rested it behind the bash board. Will this give a false reading on the gauge? While I'm here wha...
