Hi Sandun.

Last dynamo car I had was a mini.

Always used acid batteries, never tried gel.

70 amp hours is probably fine. Depends on what electrical loads you are running when the engine is stopped or at idle. Side lights with the engine stopped is a killer.

Hi Sandun,

I am using a much smaller battery (and have done for a few years) without trouble including in cold weather (with heater, lights, wipers etc sometimes). It is 35 amp hours, and the car has a dynamo. I've never felt the need to change to an alternator, as it charges fine. I am sure many people will disagree with me though...!

Hi Sandun,
It is a normal lead acid battery, and it's number is 038. The terminals are the right way round for positive earth. Google 038 battery and you will see images.

Another common battery that people use that is quite cheap here is the slightly larger 063 - the terminals are the other way around on that one, but I have fitted them in the past with no trouble.

My car always starts fine even in the cold - the last battery lasted around 4 years. And long trips are no problem - I did a 700 mile trip the other weekend!
