Hi Declan
I have contacted Peter Edney and sent pictures, I have had no reply yet, tried to phone them Friday afternoon but got no reply, I did not use any type of sealant on the seal, I was quite shocked when I removed the seal as it barely resembles the one I used, fitted another cork seal today as we are going on a run tomorrow, so far so good

Ron,
The problem with the cork seals is that most modern ones are not just plain cork but silicone impregnated cork and there we are -back to square one. Silicone is not fuel proof and the ethanol in the modern fuels eats it away rapidly. Even finding a sealant that will cope with the ethanol is a problem. The general concensus is that epoxies based on phenol novalac will work.
Regarding rubber-Viton is the way to go. Buy an offcut on fleabay and use my drawing above as a template and that will solve your problem.
If the worst comes to the worst I have Viton offcuts here and a CNC cut template of that seal.

Declan
