Carpet wear protection

Post by firedrake1942 »

I have recently seen a Traveller with a small 6" x 4" round corner triangle of rubber on the carpetting against the transmission tunnel on the drivers side and a similar piece on the driver's inner wheel arch carpet to stop wear on the carpet from the accelerator foot and where the clutch foot may rest. Does anyone know where these can be obtained? I do not really want to stick any old bit of rubber on the carpet, but do want to prevent wear spots on the carpet material in these two places.

The rubber mats pictured were originally fitted to the Minor 1000 and the Mk1 Mini range. They still crop up on ebay etc and may have been reproduced. I would try around the Morris Minor specialists or Mini specialists and ask if I wanted one.

Many Minors. Many thanks. The one on the left x 2 is exactly what I'm after but can't seem to find. Does it have a particular name or make ?

I'm not sure what else it would be called but every Minor 1000 and Mini I've ever owned has had them, so they can't be that hard to obtain.
Just try phoning around some specialists?

I have looked at every MM and Mini / other classic car carpet supplier I can find and no-one includes the triangular bit. Most (inc my carpets) have the heel pad. I have tried CW, ESM and even deigned to give BM a call. None do anything like it. I could do what others have done in the past and trip a but of shoe sole rubber, but would prefer to get something that is designed to do the job. Ho hum keep hunting!

You'll have to try a bit harder than that I imagine. The three specialists you mention would be the last ones I would try for rare, unusual and original parts. There must be at least 40 odd Minor and Mini specialists around - the MMOC magazine must list over 20 Minor ones for a start and there are even more involved in Minis.

In my experience it is often smaller specialist companies who are more likely to have correct and/or unusual items that the bigger firms simply tell you are "unobtainable" because it isn't listed in their catalogue. With a little proper searching there is nothing I've ever been unable to find for my Minors.

The part you require is listed in the original parts book for the Minor as a "wearing pad" for the gearbox extension carpet. Part number ADA3511.
