It's a misty moisty morning here at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon. Welcome to today's travels with the MMOC Charity car. Let's hope the sun shines soon. It's a bit chilly here at the moment.
So it's day 14 of the charity marathon today and later today or car gets to visit the place where it was built. Later today we go to Cowley but for the next hour or so we're at the British Motor Museum come and see us

The now-compulsory 'keys handover' photo - to David Holton who drove the car on to Cowley MINI works

"Turned out nice again" as the inimitable George Formby would have said thing is, it really did! After meeting Simon Carr from the British Motor Museum we were royally treated to a lovely bacon and egg sandwich and hot coffee before taking a quick walk around the museum. If you have not been before - do go - it's fascinating. Highlight of all highlights was an opportunity to sit in NWL 576 - the very first Morris Minor off the production line in 1948. Mike will post pictures of this once in a lifetime opportunity later. Then it was out to meet David and Pam Horton, the drivers if the car for its trip to Cowley. We did have a few mins to take some photos though

STAGE 41:

We left Gaydon with the mist still hanging in the trees and headed towards Cowley. All manner of road closures, road works and detours meant that we were a few minutes late arriving at Cowley. That said, the wam welcome from the Oxon & Berks branch and the appearance, finally, of some hot sunshine was very much appreciated. The Branch had laid on some refreshments for us which was perfectly timed - thanks folks. After a look around the museum exhibits it was time, once again, to wave the car off on its next stage of its big adventure - this time some laps of the Daytona Kart Circuit in Milton Keynes

A few shots from Cowley where, 53 years ago - the charity car was born

STAGE 43:

Charity car rocks up at Practical Classics for some quick servicing work. Everyone shows up in decent clobber and uses that as an excuse as to why they can't do any work. Bruce, being a council employee, is an experienced slacker, so everyone else works instead...
[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Really grateful to the guys at Practical Classics who allowed us to do a service stop at their workshops last night. Good to give the charity car a good inspection and freshen up. Here's the car leaving PC for Peterborough earlier this morning

[frame]Image[/frame]

Half way pit stop for the MMOC 40th Anniversary Charity Marathon car at Practical Classics workshop near Peterborough

[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

With the service stop at Practical Classics completed, the charity car is now good to go with new brake shoes, oil and filter change and adjusted clutch and tappets. No further work was needed!

Thanks so much to Danny Hopkins, Matt Tomkins and all the guys at Practical Classics for supporting the charity marathon and thanks to all the Peterborough branch members for coming along tonight.

STAGE 44:

We're at the half way stage of the MMOC 40th Anniversary Charity Marathon run 2016 today - 15 days completed, 15 days to go! This morning the car is in the Peterborough area having its picture taken at the Cathedral where MMOC club member James Dyer has arranged for a photo stop. From there it's on to Sandringham for the afternoon (not quite by Royal appointment) and finishes the day with Ian Allen (Minor Services) at Witchford.

[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Happily fundraising still at the cathedral

STAGE 45:
As the now famous MMOC Charity car rolls on through the East of England today, we're talking tyres!! Following the service visit on Friday night we noticed that a couple of the tyres were showing signs of wear. Unfortunately, by the time we noticed this, it was too late to set about getting them replaced - all the local tyre bays were closed.
After a few phone calls, Ian Allen at Minor Services, Witchford came to our rescue and has given us some replacement tyres to use. These are now with the car so if you are visiting uis at any of our locations today, please don't panic if you see them on the back seat!!! The car will carry these until tomorrow morning when we will arrange to have them fitted whilst the car is 'on duty' at Lavenham Press. Many thanks to Ian for his generosity - very much appreciated.

STAGE 53:

Really lovely to be able to take the charity car back to the people who donated it to the club tiday. Without Anthony and Gillian Dew's amazing generosity there would be no charity marathon at all. Very pleased to report that they are absolutely blown away by how much effort has been made by the club and members to make the marathon a big success. Joined at Chiswick by Lucy Brown of the South London branch who is looking after the car in Roehampton tonight before handing it on to the combined Kent branches and the branches on the south coast in the coming days.
