Re: rear wing trim
You mean the beading between wing and body...?
I think the accepted method is to paint the wing off the car, then fit wing and beading to the painted shell... carefully!

Re: rear wing trim
Comparing a few pictures on the web, it seems the beading is probably body-coloured although I wouldn't want to stake my reputation on it. I'm also not sure whether the beading is paint-able or whether it can be obtained in correct body colour. Hopefully somebody else here can confirm for you

Re: rear wing trim
You can get grey beading. it is a generic grey rather than matching the specific colour. Not all that long ago you could get a colour match but they now require and order of 5000 litres of the stuff as a minimum.

ESM or Charie Ware will usually send you a small sample on request.
This place is down under and is expensive plus postage plus a 6 week wait, but I have used them for very hard to get spares.

Woolies also do two different grey wing pipings and are unfailingly helpful
Good luck

It is paintable but will quickly flex and crack.

Re: rear wing trim
As an aside... if your painting in Dove Grey, you should, for accuracy, have a red pinstripe on the waist mouldings especially if the interior is red. In my very humble opinion, black wing beading will perhaps make the finished car look a little too 'fussy'.

Re: rear wing trim
PB is, as usual spot on. My Clarendon Grey (Have I mentioned it at all ??????) had black piping on at one time and it looked an abomination. The coach line is a really nice finishing touch.

I think you should always be a bit careful about a car that has overpainted beading. It may be ok or could be something tarted up for a quick sale.

Re: rear wing trim
I've walked away from a few cars these last few years that have had the wing pipeing painted over. I find it just shows that who ever did the respray doesn't have pride in they're work, or the person commissioning the paint job is trying to hide something possibly.

Re: rear wing trim
so true i quite like the idea of red as the interior is red or maroon as DSM call it,and at them prices its not too bad so i might try red ive a wasted black now just sitting about lol,Budgie wrote:I've walked away from a few cars these last few years that have had the wing pipeing painted over. Re: rear wing trim
Cherokee red I believe the correct name is of the interior colour.

Re: rear wing trim
Cherokee Red replaced Tartan Red as an interior trim colour in 1964. If the interior has been re-trimmed it's likely to be in a generic 'red' shade. Irrespective of this, Tartan Red remained the pinstripe colour (Cherokee was never offered as a paint shade IIRC). Tartan Red beading (or piping) should be fairly easy to obtain. I think it was widely applied to MGB rear wings for years.

Re: rear wing trim
I looked at all the options inc VW which has a slightly different although not wholly mismatching profile, as well as all the other car makes that had piping i.e. all the BMC marques and I think some Ford ones form the 60's - whilst it broadened the field there are a limited number produced by the extruders.

Re: rear wing trim
Try Morgan spares suppliers. Wing beading is available in many colours since they stopped spraying the cars with the wings in situ.
