Tyres....Again!

Post by Pickingscrap »

I know this topic will have had more then a few times round however
I need to know if I can get away with putting 155 65 14s on to a standard
rim before I go and waste money on 4 of them. its the last part I need
before the MOT next week so with funds running low (Christmas) I need to keep
the cost down otherwise I would pay out for like for like tyres.

Why do we have Christmas and buy/get stuff we don't need or want when
we could have Mogg'mas and get car parts instead!?

More suited to 4 1/2" rims, I wouldn't want to use those tyres on standard rims.

They are slightly (10mm) more than the recommended width. However half the Minors on the road seem to use this size and I have that size Nankang tyres on one of my Minors and they are absolutely fine. Much less expensive than the 145/80/14 Bridgestones fitted to my other car and very little difference in the drive. I would recommend them without hesitation if you are on a tight budget. Shop around to get the price. I prefer them to the Toyo tyres I had previously.

Only just noticed that you propose a 65 profile tyre rather than 80. Only disadvantage I can think of to that is the gearing will be altered a little. If that doesn't bother you and you can purchase them cheaply, there is no other real reason not to fit them I suppose but I cannot think of any advantage.....

I'm inclined to agree. Ware's put them on my Traveller and they've been just fine. 6 or 7 years ago, getting ready for new ones.

As a guy who likes Allegros, being outnumbered is nothing new to me! :D

Yes, should be fine.

Speedo will be slightly off.

There is some discussion about these in Practical Classic this month, I think some were fitted to Matt Tomkins Traveller as a test.
