Re: Spotted today.
I'm sure there's someone in the Minor fraternity whose aim is to give ppl restoring PO vans crap advice....
Fleet owned commercials without battle scars never look "right" imho.

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Re: Spotted today.
there is quite a good club on the IOW with an enviable following and an excellent newsletter. Any restored vehicle is unlikely to have battle scars. However there is a commercial opportunity for peel off scratches and dent decals........

Re: Spotted today.
No Moggies around Kidderminster this week, but today ***HUY, a locally registered dark blue 1962 Ford 307E Thames (Anglia 105E) van, with added side-windows.

Black two-door in Kidderminster today. VVS***.
Sounded modified. Looked vaguely familiar. Perhaps a Malvern Hills Branch member...?

Re: Spotted today.
Another Moggie in Kidderminster today - parked in the retail park. Nice-looking 4-door in Clarendon Grey. Nicely patinated interior, with maroon carpets and draught excluders, but unusual light beige seats and door-cards. Staffordshire reg. no. dating from between August and November 1957. Had the first type of combined trafficator/horn stalk on the steering column, and a club sticker on a rear quarter-light.

Re: Spotted today.
Overriders - non-deluxe I presume (I didn't look close enough to verify presence of heater or parcel shelf).firedrake1942 wrote:Very nice ! wonder what happened to the overriders and there are strange front sidelights.
Sidelights - Early 'export' Mini white lenses for some reason.
Had a gold coach-line too.
Thought you'd comment as representative of the '57 Clarendon grey club!!

Re: Spotted today.
Tee hee. It is so nicely proportioned it is odd that the little details are wrong
Re: Spotted today.
spotted a black split-screen saloon on the M1 yesterday,with a bicycle strapped to the boot.(on a rack i presume!)
Re: Spotted today.
I'd guess the later lights take a twin filament bulb to combine sidelights and indicators. Can't see what he uses at the back though.firedrake1942 wrote:Very nice ! wonder what happened to the overriders and there are strange front sidelights.

Re: Spotted today.
I presumed the same. Perhaps the 1961/62 'flashing brake light' set-up at the back?ianmack wrote:I'd guess the later lights take a twin filament bulb to combine sidelights and indicators. Can't see what he uses at the back though.

Re: Spotted today.
Excellent - I will watch out for that when it is shown here in about 12 months time, dubbed into German of course but they do the voices very very well.
I wonder as an afterthought, when was the last time anyone in England saw an original German Programme on TV that had nothing to do with WWII ?

Re: Spotted today.
Found a couple episodes of 'Alarm fur Cobra 11' (sorry about the missing umlaut) on an internet tv source. Even this was dubbed into French and entitled 'Alerte Cobra'

Re: Spotted today.
Seriously?
You want an appreciation of German culture from the little englander, brexit-voting, Daily Mail / Sun reading splendid isolation loving, vacuous British, with their very narrow backward looking weltanschauung? There are some good modern German films very late at night on Channel 4 but that's about it! It seems that we are destined forever to re-run the WW2 staples all the while chanting 'one world cup and two world wars' whilst not appreciating that the ties that bind the EU have made the possibility of such conflicts, fuelled by petty nationalism, all but unthinkable.
Sorry just afflicted and thoroughly depressed by the hideous modern brand of Weltschmerz.
Chin up, What!

Re: Spotted today.
World war two casts a long shadow, including in this century a disastrous sense of entitlement and perhaps even obligation to invade countries with bad governments. We are then miffed when the locals don't appreciate our efforts.

Re: Spotted today.
Me neither, especially when you consider some of the alternatives.
Re: Spotted today.
I very much like being British, it's just a pity about our foreign policy.
