Choke cable

My little Morris hardly needs any choke, and I can push in the control pretty quickly. Problem is the choke sticks slightly and sometimes I need to pull it out again and shove it back hard to turn the choke off.

I guess I need to adjust or lubricate something - but where do I start?

Any advice much appreciated as always!

Disconnect the choke cable at the carburettor, apply a thin layer of grease to the visible cable, then slowly draw the cable back from inside the car, greasing as you go being careful you don't remove the thing altogether. When greased cable appears again you've pulled it far enough and can then push it back in. it's not the end of the world if it pops out but it's not an easy job to feed it back in!

You should also ensure that the spring loaded mechanism on the side of the
carb' is not sticking. ( I have just sorted this problem for a Minor where the
jet would not return completely due to dirt on this mechanism and a complete
lack of lubrication) a clean and oiling cured all.

Be wary of undoing the cable to grease it - if it has frayed in any way you will be looking at buying a new cable. Try oiling the outer layer of the cable where you can see it in the engine bay - just a little engine oil will soak through and help it slide. Also try twisting it as you push it back in. If it needs little choke - it may be set up too rich in the first place ! And as Willie says - make sure the mech on the carb is nice and free moving - and is the return spring there ok ?

Maybe my car is special, but my choke cable is not made of little strands, it is a solid thing

Some are - some not! Maybe depends if it's been replaced over the years.
