Assume nothing....

Post by Peetee »

The sweetly running 1275 Ital engine that subsequently found its way into Joemog was investigated today. You may remember that i have struggled to get the thing to run nicely since it was installed. My efforts were concentrated on the carb but, after noticing that No 1 spark plug hole was bubbling I took off the rocker cover and found that 1 rear head stud and 2 rocker shaft studs were loose! :o

Did tightening them cure the problem?

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Don't know yet, I'm a driveway mechanic and it's all gone horribly dark out there.

I doubt that will make it run any better - unless the head gasket has blown.

But it may help to explain the puddle of oil left when the engine is running - which I put down to a leaking scroll seal - the top of the engine/gearbox mating is wet with oil..
