Oil Pump .. What have I done wrong ..

Post by JustinMinor1000 »

For some reason the oil pump cover and plate will not fit .. It snaggs on the top right corner of the pump .. (As seen in the photograph) ..

(I'm reducing the size right now ..)

It's a later type of pump - have you changed the camshaft to a different drive configuration ? Is the pump definitely seated home ok in it's housing ? If so - you will just have to 'modify' the pump with a file and or the casing until they DO fit!! If it's just the lock tabs causing the problem - throw them away.
While on the subject - be sure to prime it with lots of oil and maybe some grease or vaseline to be sure it will pick up ok when you go to start the engine.

Sadly, having to attack a new pump with a file is a well known problem :(
