1275 A Plus Info Required

Post by Rustaddict »

Can anyone help me, I have just fitted a 1275 A plus engine into a series II, the problem I have is a tapping in the right hand side of the block which is open. I think it goes to the water jacket but can't be sure. Has anyone got a manual I could have a look at so I can identify what should go into this hole.
Twickenham area.

is it at the top or bottom of the block?
if it is low down, remeber that the 1275 in an ital or marina, the engine blocks wee further back, so it is possible the tapping is this.
if so put a bolt in it, or oil will come out

The tapping is 3" from the bottom of the block & about level with the back of the dynamo.
I have a bolt ligned up ready to fit if I dont have to fit a sensor of some sort.
I have only found a connection for an oil pressure gauge just below the oil filter connection, so I have a sneaking suspicion it could be for an oil pressure sensor.
Can anyone confirm ?

ok
there is a tapping for the oil sensor or oil pressure.
the tapping you are talking about is almost certain to be where the original engine mounting blaocks were fitted.

i have a 1275 ital in mine and that is what i had to do. put a boult in it , to stop the oil coming out.
there should be another one in the same place but on the other side of the block

It's not used - nothing will come out - but put a short setscrew in it if it makes it look tidier! Is it not part of the alternator mounting arrangements ? How have you mounted the dynamo - I would have thought there would be no place to screw on the rear mount ?

on th eital. it is not part of the dynamo or alternator fitting
it is further back , the dynamo bracket is in front of these tappings,
that is if we are all talking about the same thing :D

I know the hole you mean - maybe was used on the production line - or maybe on the Maestro ? But I fear the tappings for the alternator bracket will be too far forward to allow fitment of a dynamo.

Thanks guys, it doesn't look like I have much to worry about, I think I will leave it unplugged & see what comes out (if anything) when I fill the engine with fluids ready for the big first time fire up !
