Hi, does anyone know where in Scotland I can get my 1963 morris minor restored? - in need of quite a bit of work, but I love it so i´m not giving up on it now!! I´m based in Aberdeen, so the nearer the better, but anywhere really, getting desperate!
Thanks in advance....

Many will overcharge you horribly for this - so take great care. Used to be Minor place in Brechin - dunno if he's still there. There is one in Bo'ness (had a small line of Minors and Minis outside yesterday). probably best bet is to find a small local garage - owner-mechanic if possible, and negotiate with them for specific work to be done and at what cost. But you need to have a budget in mind - and have the car fully surveyed before you start so there are no horrible surprises half way through. Rust is the enemy - mechanical condition/parts etc are almost irrelevant - they cost so little compared to rust repairs.

Contact the North East Morris Minors Club. If you need their details get back to me. They will advise.

Wille Low ex Brechin and Montrose now works out of a garage at his home near Arbroath. I've seen his work and it is to a high standard, plus a nicer guy you just won't meet.
I haven't spoken to him for a while, so don't know how busy he is.

How about further north, like in Easter Ross/Inverness area?

I know of Kinkell Classic Cars but was told they were very expensive.

The Barnyards Bodyshop in Beauly used to specialise in Morris Minors but the owner retired and his son said he wasn't doing restoration anymore.

Although someone I talked more recently said he was still doing it & and I still see the Morris Van with their company information on it sometimes, but maybe he just does general bodywork.

It was 14 years ago that this request was made, so probably things have moved on?

Well the OP has not been heard of since his question, he’s probably sorted car out or given up and sold it, got married, bought a semi, and now driving a Merc. :D

Well before posting this rather bizarre addition to this topic last active in 2007, honourmore hasn't posted since Oct 2008, so I think this is a case of ...
"Nothing to see here, let's move on...."

I was asking for myself as I am 15 miles north of Inverness and most places I've seen mentioned are further south.
I am finally in a position where I can start to get my Morris restored but am not sure of what's available near me or their reputation.
I did not notice the date I just searched the forum for information and I don't think it's particularly bizarre to ask for help in a topic asking for similar help.
I was not notified of the replies to my question, I just saw it when searching for something else.

Ours went on transporter (because the clutch went on the journey down admittedly) from Glasgow to Witchford, Ely (Minor Services) in 2011.

Once there, they ended up having to remove almost all the work that had been done a few years previous by a Scottish Morris Minor restorer (which had been quite expensive), because it was so badly done. :o

So, not to tar all the places in Scotland with the same brush, but my recommendation for restoration in Scotland - is England.

Updated information in case anyone else is searching for a restoration place in Scotland.

I contacted the Highland Classic Car Club and they suggested the Barnyards Bodyshop in Beauly which, I think, is still run by Hugh Finney's son and they have a few Moggies in just now.

I dropped by and had a talk with them and they showed me a Morris that happened to be up on a lift being looked over, that they had fully restored 15 years ago, and it still looked really good.

I also contacted the Scottish MMOC and they put me in touch with a member near me who said to stay away from Kinkell Classic Cars as he knew some people who'd had bad experiences with them.
