Sounds good to me Steve, and another way for me to damage my wood chisels in a good cause :D

Metal chisels are better though and don't need re-sharpening anywhere near as much as a wood chisel.

Wood chisels are excellent at removing old gaskets though.

Normally use a metal chisel, surprising how easily they cut through the metal!!

That sounds like good working practice to me! Perhaps a fire extinguisher might have been more effective though?

You can also get all steel wood chisels as well. They are longer and wider (30 - 40mm) and about £12 - £15 if this helps.

wood chissel is an essential part of a tool kit:-

scrapes gaskets off

removed under seal and glue

cuts sheet metal..

small prie bar...

should be part of every mm tool kit!

Bit too brittle (hard) for that. Not nice when they snap!

Wood Chisel

Use an air- chisel . The right tool for the job , and much quicker + safer . Don't forget the ear plugs !! :o  Arfron

hand held chisel is quieter ,cheaper to run, can turn corners when cutting, and if u need to cut a flap in something and then fold back into place it dosent remove any metal like the 2 or 3mm strip that u get with air chisel, i cut off the rear wing all the way along an inch from body ,done in 10 mins although here an air chisel would have been better, steve
