electronic fuel pump

I have an SU AUA 66 electronic fuel pump that isn't working. Can these be fixed like the ones with points or do I need a new one. It's not very old.

Does the 'hitting it' thing work with electronic ones as well as points ones?

This is why we advise folks to avoid the electronic pumps - more trouble than the points. Other than check there is power at the terminal - I doubt you can do much - but always worth a good poke at the mechanism - I imagine it must still have the same ' throw over' toggle arrangement.

I didn't know electronic ones existed. Bought it from ESM about 2 years ago, Assumed it was points version.

Poke the toggle mech any way to see if iot starts ticking.....

Sorry, what's the toggle mech?
I've taken the plastic cap off which just reveals a circuit board. Is there anything serviceable by going into the other end attached with six screws?
It clicks once when I turn the ignition on so it's getting current to it.

The toggle will be under the circuit board. No - don't go in the other end...at least, not yet. You sure it's not pumping? Have you taken the pipe off the carb - and tried pumping petrol into a tin can?

It's the user serviceable parts in the old style pump.
2 years doesn't seem long, have a chat with ESM and see if they will swap it.

As it clicks once - it's possible the valve in the carb is stuck shut - hence my suggestion to test it into a can.......

On the electronic ones there's a forked piece of metal off to one side of the end of the shaft, should this be positioned off to one side or centered over shaft end? It looks wrong to be off centre. The shaft moves fine.

if u have su fuel pump - yes it has 6 nut in dypham side - but u not put ur hand 1st that side - 1st if we know pump not work we chek the + wier fine ,next voltege , 3rd hit to the body of pump - if not work remove from car it then check agein- remove to the plastic cup has 1 nut - then u can see points - clean the point and wier end + and - ,if has some condenser or resister inside check it fine - the members said hit to the body of pump it is good advaice it is 3rd step that i told - if pump work give sound tic ... Tic.... Tic... - dont remove all parts if u dont know problem -remember if u remove point it has real gap to set it..

Sorry - i think u move to su point pump it very simple - i have su point pump it work fine now 1 problem some parts no in sri Lanka not like england so my best friend Mr. Mark gave me a extra fuel pump i use it as an spare pump bz my fuel pumpu very old now

SUSSED IT!
It turns out that the 'electronic' version is polarity specific! I wrongly assumed that they worker either way like the points type.

So swapping the pump from my 'negative earth' pick-up to my 'positive earth' van is the reason for it not working

Only question now is whether I've damaged it by wiring it the wrong way round?!
It seems to work fine on the bench. Any thoughts?

Yes of course electronic parts are polarity specific....hopefully it was protected by a diode. You didn't tell us the pump was being swapped from another vehicle - or obviously then the polarity would have been questioned. Telling us only half the story is no use..........
