Escort mk2 back axle....wheels, offset etc?

Post by Suzukimorris »

Anyone got any pics of escort mk2 axle on morris showing what's wheels they've gone for so I can tell stance etc. I want just some cheap stealies off something from the scrappy to keep the project rolling, but just curious what to look for. I'd like 16" but 15" ain't too big an issue as they'll get changed at the end for something else.

Thanks guys

On mine as per the sig, Mk2 Escort back axle, 15" Peugeot 205 GTi alloys, 185 65 tyres (or possibly 185 -60?) on the rear Wider tyres touched the wing lip on severe bumps

How much space do you have on the back of the wheel between the inside wheel arch if you dont mind me asking?

I can't remember exactly and I am nowhere near my car at the moment but I would guess about 1.5cm internal gap. The issue with 205s was not the internal gap but the gap to the wings being too tight. A slight bump would cause burning rubber.

I'm in the same position as Susukimorris so can anyone come up with a car with Ford PCD where I can get 13" steelies and then use 185 65 tyres, of course if they are alloys then that is a bonus :D

Anybody got some for sale?

I found some American ford thunderbird steels off ebay at the weekend for £100. I've measured everything up and if I'm right my back axle edge of wheel to wheel should be the same as my current wellers which sit bang on the arch with a 30mm spacer. The difference is the wellers have 155 tyres on and the American steels have 195s on. Will post a picture later so you can see them dummies up. Through a bit of research, citron saxo steels will fit, as will most peugeot wheels (not the 206 though).

Well at the mo I have 13' wellers with morris pcd, but I'm going to put on the jlh disc brake kit which converts it to ford 108 so I've got the same all around. At the minute I'm going to try to fit the same 6.5j 195mm ford wheels but I know clearance on the trunnions is going to be tough as at the mo ive got only about a fingers width of clearance. I'm hoping worst case scenario I can put a 30mm spacer on to push them out because they are sat in board compared to the rears, I'll post up a load of pictures tonight of the build and it's current state so you can at least see what I'm talking about.
