Silly question about my grease gun

Post by purps »

I have some silly questions about my inheritated grease gun please, any help much appreciated.

It doesn't "snap" onto the grease nipple, is it supposed to? Or is it just held in place with hand pressure?

What is the function of the red ring in the picture? It's not very compliant, it's not supposed to stretch over the nipple is it?

Cheers,
Matt.[frame]Image[/frame]

Could we see the rest of the gun? To me, it looks as though there are no "teeth" to grip the nipple, and the rubber ring forms a seal when the gun is pumped - and that suggests a pump action rather than a lever operated gun, which will become clear when we see the rest of the unit.

Thanks for the reply. It's like this one, so lever type? Does that mean something is missing?[frame]Image[/frame]

try turning the end there should be some teeth to grip the nipple , why not try getting a new flexiable hose for it

So, yes, it is a lever type, and there does appear to be something missing :( , but it's easily and cheaply repairable. :)

Thank you all so much, very helpful, will check all that out. Yes I think a flexible hose is a good idea! I could see some of the grease points being quite awkward with what I have.

Cheers,
Matt.

I have one that looks similar and I added a nice long flexi hose, so gun can be on the floor when I'm pushing the lever and 2nd hand holding the hose onto the nipple (it self-holds when there is pressure, but if it hangs down at an angle, it can come off before you start greasing!).

an expression I use with the newbies a work..

Bought a generic silverline extension, does the job perfectly, thanks again one and all.
