Morris Minor Owners Club

A white 1960 Morris Minor saloon has turned up with an 'Abandoned' notice on the screen, it's been left in Queensbury Road, Salisbury for over 2 weeks, nobody knows who it belongs to and residents have complained to the authorities.

It's taxed (Historic) and MOT'd, not pristine, but certainly doesn't look like a scapper, quite possibly stolen. Does anyone know the owner?

I'm not a Minor owner, this showed up on Facebook, so I thought I'd do my duty as a classic owner and spread the word.

Thanks Malcolm, the story has reached a happy(though embarrassing for the owners daughter) conclusion

I don't understand why Wiltshire Council has slapped an "abandoned vehicle" notice on a car that is obviously taxed and perfectly entitled to be parked on any unrestricted road (provided that it also has current insurance cover).
Is this a case of "Mrs Nosey" getting in on the act?

And another thing, don't the "council gestapo" have access to DVLA records and don't they recognise a "classic" vehicle, don't they consider that it may have been stolen (and contact the Police) and don't they have any brain cells?

I think a few people ought to be writing to Wiltshire council and complaining about the over keenness of there staff to remove and destroy cars that have a right to be on the road, I wonder what the outcome would be if it was crushed...???

The owner has been traced, apparently, although that's not confirmed.

Sadly this "abandoned" Morris would seem to be too new (registered in 1960) to be a "rare LBM" car . Otherwise I guess it would be very valuable...... Not that most of us think they ARE rare as there have been several for sale just in the last few weeks - yet another on ebay now - item no: 231390785870. I have owned one for some years and see nothing whatever unusual about it, being exactly the same as every other 2door Minor produced over an 18month or so period which would have been a considerable number of cars!

That is indeed a rare/extremely valuable LBM - now don't all bid at once folks !

Agree with you Mr.G, subject has died a death anyway.

However, after extensive research - ie time to boil an egg - I have discovered that
Triumph TR7's were ALL built as vans. They were converted using the reworked roofs
from LBM Chop-Top 2dr Minor's.

Roy will confirm this as I've spent exhaustive seconds researching this!

If there's a Y and an X in the body number, usually followed by a 52 digit sequential
number, prefixed by a C,R,P or an A in ANY order....Zzzzz

I think, in response to 'why the council put this notice on a clearly taxed vehicle', it is because the issuing officer has misread the number plate. The note clearly reads 'GFD 376', the plate on the car being 'GFO 376', thus GFD may well not be MOT'd/taxed/insured, which I believe is illegal to be even parked on the street. Not defending the council particularly, as they've misread the number plate, and disregarded the tax disk suggesting the car is taxed and MOT'd (presumably). Perhaps Wiltshire council should've gone to specsavers?

Hello, I have recently bought this car!

GFO 376 - and interested to see this thread on its recent history. I am keen to find out a bit more, I know it was in the same hands for the last 25 years but nothing before this. I also believe that it has replacement plates, how could i find out what it was originally? I would also like to know the date of manufacture as my insurance company believe it to be 1956 with a 948 cc but reg doc has 1960 first registered.

If it's 1956/7 the wiper motor plinth will be square topped, 1960 with "fold".

when you have the chassis number, it is not a big problem to find out the production date..

where should i be looking for the chassis number?
