Are all 2 door car doors from any year interchangeable ?
Hi all
I have a 1953 factory convertible that requires some front doors.
My question is - do I need 1953 only doors to fit my car or will any year fit ?
Many thanks

Re: Are all 2 door car doors from any year interchangeable ?
Hi,
As far as I am aware all 2 door doors will fit all 2 door Minors. Also the doors from Travellers are the same, plus Van doors are the same size as well.
By the same token I believe that the doors for 4 door cars are the same for any period in Minor development.
This is what I have been informed in the past anyway but if others know better please speak up.
Best wishes,
Mike.

I've never had anything to do with vans, but I thought that they used the narrower front door from the four door?

Vans and pick ups I believe use front doors from a four door car

The only difference I know in the door itself is the addition of the hole for the rubber grommet for the handle to hit and maybe some changes in the self tapping holes on the inside. The vent window hardware also changed sometime after 53. Van doors are six inches shorter and have a different profile on the latch end.

Series 11 cars had thinner hinges, so the recesses are shallower. If fitting later doors, you'll need the original hinges and my need a shim behind them on the door shell.

Yes, Lcv doors are the same as the front doors of a 4 door saloon.

Another difference is the addition of the external keyhole on the left door after 64 or so. Not just a hole but some embossing as well.
I'll need to make a note of the hinge thickness.

You never stop learning on here do you.
So two door cars and travellers are all the same (allowing for hinges and spacers as required).
However I was completely wrong about van doors.
But the four door doors are the same, it's just that the earlier and later hinges differ, though that is not insurmountable, with the appropriate hinges to go with the doors and possibly the addition of spacers.
Mental note made.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Top tip - don't swap doors between 2dr saloon and Traveller unless you want to risk a poor fit.
Same between van and 4dr.
The difference can be tiny but a few mm is more than enough trouble.
Good tip about the SII hinges though - that's probably a bigger issue if you didn't match it correctly

It would be nice to have the luxury of finding like for like, I would have imagined both sets of doors were produced on similar presses though.

Travellers and LCV produced in different production plants - hence the risk that they varied to the saloons.
I don't know about Morris but most other plants adjusted body & door tooling to get a better fit..
Therefore door from a different production plant is often not a good donor.
