I recently refurbished my 57 wiper motor and I'm embarressed to say that I cannot remember where the red wire from the park sensor goes. Can someone help here please? I know it goes into the motor housing but no idea where it connects ?

I think it is something to do with the parking mechanism for the wipers and there is a connection inside,

I can only find an illustration of an MGB motor which is similar

Hope it helps. the refurbed motor looks good tho!

Found this posting on the forum which says this wire goes to the field Coil (?)

This link shows the other end of the wire attached to the field coil

Originally it was soldered or crimped as shown in the link from firedrake.
Another option would be to connect it externally on the motor terminal marked 1 along with the Black/Green wire from the wiper switch on your car.
It might be worth checking inside for frayed wires from where the original wire was connected as it could make the wipers start on their own, unless you thought at the time it would be better to connect it externally and removed the wire carefully. :D

Just added the photos from linked previous post in case they go AWOL.
They should give enough detail or memory jog for your needs.

Thanks very much Firedrake and John, I have soldered the wire back on to the field coil, hopefully to the correct side.

Before I test test the wiper motor, can anyone tell me if I have soldered it to the correct side of the field coil ?

Yes that looks right, it is effectively connected to terminal 1.
When you fit it back on the car the Green wire goes to Terminal 2
Black/Green to Terminal 1
Black to E
The park position is adjusted by rotating the round section, might be worth marking the wiper spindles with taped on pointers to make setting the park position easier.

One last question on this topic, I seem to have misplaced one of the screws on the field coil terminal. I have tried to match it up at our local fastener supplier but they dont seem to have that thread. Anyone know what thread this is ? I could probably use a self tapping crew but I dont want to do that.
Also Moss doesn't seem to supply parts of the wiper motor ( to the best of my knowledge) just refurbished complete assemblies.

The screw is 4BA, would be a shame to spoil it with a self taper.

Ring Lucas. They have probably got them by the bin load.

I have a huge problem with my wiper motor which may lead me to believe that it is U/S, and would like confirmation please?

I started the restoration 3 1/2 years ago and am now finishing the replacement loom. Every thing is good except for the Wiper motor which shows a dead short as soon as I connect the green live to the middle tag on the motor. I have checked and rechecked the wiring, swapped the switch wires around but still the fault persists. I have removed the motor from the car and checked that the cable is not jammed, but cannot turn the drive wheel at all. could this be seized through storage causing the fault?

Thanks in advance.

If all three are showing the same problems,I'd suggest the fault is elsewhere?

Confirmed, it is stuck. New one ordered. Was working fine before the resto started.
