ignition light

Hi,
I have recently replaced my points and condenser with the electronic conversion kit. All seemed very simple and car running nicely. The odd thing though is that my ignition light stays on when ignition is turned off. It is off when running. Is this normal with these conversions.
Regards, Gazsen.

No. Either something wrong with your new piece of kit, or you have installed it wrongly in some way.

Unplug the electronic ignition to coil wire and see if light goes out, as stated sounds like incorrect wiring .

Just a random question and probably not relevant. Is the car positive or negative earthed and have you bought the correct polarity item?
The positive earth probably has white and black cables. The negative earth red and black. Their connection methods are totally different.

The simplest explanation is that while fitting the wiring for the Electronic Ign you've disturbed the field (thin wire) connection to the Dynamo/Alternator.

Look at what you've done in fitting the Electronic Kit. You've connected something wrongly somewhere.....

Thanks all for your comments. I will take another look at the wiring this weekend. I have just converted everything to Neg earth so will double check my purchase also.

Keep an eye on the battery - best to disconnect it, if you haven’t already.

Apart from wiring, if you have fitted an alternator (not just re-polarised the dynamo as part of your conversion) a typical fault that could present itself like that is a faulty diode pack.
