change of keeper - taxing car

Bought a new car 2 weeks ago. checked online and now DVLA say the vehicle is no longer taxed. I understand this. so whilst waiting for a new V5 to arrive, it says I can use the green bit of the log book which the new keeper holds onto. I type the 12 digit number in and it says I can't use it. not va...

Re: E-bay Scammers

I think you have to be pretty stupid to give your money away to someone you don't know for something your not standing in front of.

it's like fools that buy cars before viewing them.

if your giving money away, I can email you my account details.

Re: rev counter

I quite like to keep a check on the basic engine essentials now and then - oil pressure and water temperature, in particular, hence why I fitted those. The 'boy racer' in me would quite like a rev counter also though, just to amuse oneself on occasions! But yes, an ultra-simple, Spartan 'less...

Re: rear crankshaft scroll.

I did the same! fitted my newly built engine a month ago and forgot to fit the pin in the bottom of the gearbox. did wonder if I should attempt to fir one, but with the green light from the experts on here, i'll just put a thin screw driver up the hole every now and then.

Re: Tyre & Upper Trunnion Clearance

this happened a few years ago to one of our cars. we used a couple of washers on each wheel stud to get the clearance. as far as i'm aware, they are still there 20 years later.

choke cable

would anyone know the length of the choke cable on a 1098 engine? I guess they differ in length from year to year?

on a road car, all your mathematics are useless. fit a better diff and the tyre size is not worth worrying about.

its a MM not a Ferrari.

Re: 155 Nankang or 145 Bridgestone

in regards to the question above on whether the revs would be higher on a car with 145 or 155 tyres, this is irrelevant. those dimensions are the width, not the height of the tyre. revs would change if you went from 145/80/14 down to 145/65/14. the tyre would be slimmer so the wheel would need to ro...

Re: Cam bearings

Camshaft bearing tool.JPG I used mg midget pistons ( I had some old ones of these). perfect fit to be honest. I do have a couple spare 2nd hand ones of these. drilled a centre hole in both but tapped one to M12 thread. a long M12 thread bolt and off you go. I marked out where the oil gallery holes ...

Re: Cam bearings

I have just finished building a 1098 and fitted new camshaft bearings. I made a tool from 2 old brake pistons and some M10 stud. I wound all 3 in easily and posted the pictures on Facebook.

Camshaft turns nicely by hand now with no movement. Found it quite easy to do.
