Re: fitting new screen rubber on a splitty?
My every day car is a Honda Civic and I currently have a 1969 convertible of some ten years and over the last 35 years I have owned a 1956 four door splitty, 1968 two door saloon, Triumph Mayflower, [ now that car was under powered with a big, heavy body, three speed, 1247 side valve engine!],Triump...

Re: fitting new screen rubber on a splitty?
I'm still indecisive ...... even more so now . As a matter of curiosity, would you rather the original 803 engine instead of the 948 ?

Re: fitting new screen rubber on a splitty?
Bored and stuck indoors with this rotten weather I've been looking back on some topics/ threads on this forum with regards the 803 engine. Back in 2009 it got rather a slating !!!

Re: fitting new screen rubber on a splitty?
I rather like them tbh but if I do end up buying her then I will most probably put some sympathetic flashers on her but like you mentioned , I'd like to put them somewhere where they just need "clamping on" as I wouldn't want to drill holes which weren't originally there.

Re: fitting new screen rubber on a splitty?
Yeh I did notice that 1st, 2nd and third were close as in needing to change from each other rather soon after selecting but once she was in 4th she seemed to tootle along fine. Like you said , it's a matter of getting used to. Just rather conscious of having only trafficators in this day and age alt...

Re: Brake Lights Not Working On Split Screen
May be worth checking in the boot in case something like a rogue tool-roll or improperly secured spare wheel has caused any wiring damage This happened to my tourer a few years ago. The spare wheel was chafing against the wire and caused the insulation to wear through and the brake lights to become...

Re: fitting new screen rubber on a splitty?
Thanks for that palacebear I just needed to know how sluggish they are and didn't expect what I experienced. He won't shift much on the price but it will have an MOT even though it doesn't legally need one, and I wouldn't entertain it if it didn't have an up to date certificate. Plus he will apparen...

Re: fitting new screen rubber on a splitty?
Well the storey continues with regards my possible purchase of a 1954 four door split windscreen minor. After some two weeks deliberation on waying up the pros and cons of this model, I went back down to see her and take another look around her and take her for a spin. Now I've never driven an 803 c...

Re: Convertible hood colour ?
Thanks for that palace bear nice to know as the last owner replaced the red vinyl interior with cream leather so I'm assuming he changed the hood colour for cream to match the inside. It does look rather nice though. My first minor was a two door 1968 maroon B saloon with the original red vinyl inte...

Re: Convertible hood colour ?
I have a 1969 factory convertible and it has a cream colour hood with maroon B paintwork. The paintwork is the original colour but I'm not sure if the hood was cream from the factory though as it's not the original one from new.

Re: Help the Bees
Wasps do actually serve a purpose in so much as they help to keep insects in check as they are predominately insectivorous and they also help to pollinate by the very nature of how they catch a lot of their prey.palacebear wrote:I've never understood the purpose of wasps...

Re: fitting new screen rubber on a splitty?
Getting back to the main subject. By coincidence I drove past a pair of guys today locally to me and they were busy sorting out a rear windscreen of a Mondeo so I stopped and had a chat with them. They turned out to be a local windscreen fitting firm and would you believe it , when I asked them if t...

Re: parts quality
I bought a pair of front wheel bearings two years ago from a well known minor supplier and within less than a year and only 200 miles later they had to be adjusted for the MOT as they were dangerously slack. I've tightened them up once more since and that's only 300 miles on !

Re: Help the Bees
Anyone watch "Spring Watch" a couple of weeks ago about the diminishing amount of birds in the British Isles? Staggering!! I appear to have more birds in my garden this year than ever before. As regards the bees - let the dandelions grow in your lawn apparently they are one of the first f...
