Re: Teak framed traveller

As a boatbuilder I would regard finding a Traveller with a teak frame a major bonus! Ash was used because it is strong & flexible, Teak less so. However Ash is classed as Non durable & if water gets in will start rotting with alacrity. Once it starts rotting it wont stop & its strength i...

Re: Is DOT 5 as wonderful as some would have...

If you enjoy changing expensive cylinders use ordinary stuff, if you want the brakes to just keep working use Dot 5 silicone, Its that simple really.

Re: Is DOT 5 as wonderful as some would have...

I used to run a selection of moggy vans, A seized up brake cylinder front or rear was usual at every MOT & it was an annual chore replacing one or more cylinders & bleeding the brakes. I acquired & rebuilt my Moggy truck in 89 & put it back on the road in 1991, It had a complete new ...

Munro air shocks

I just bought an escort axle for my truck, its come off an old custom morris saloon thats been knocking about for years. Owner is going back to a stock axle, probably to keep above the dvla's 8 point rule. It has a pair of Munro air shocks with it old but look unused, A quick measure up & it loo...

Re: What is the cause of half shaft failures?

I have had two break on my truck, seem to remember both nearside, If you look at a secondhand shaft you will often find a wear point on the shaft at the point it exits the diff scocket, often this will appear sharp & the splines themselves may show that they are starting to twist out of line. Th...

Re: Best type of garage door

One basic problem with up & over doors is that if you give them a good thump at the top in the middle it is often enough to pop them open, or a crowbar in bottom corner. I fitted shoot bolts in all four corners these are set on 18mm plywood pads bedded on a big wodge of body filler & bolted ...

Re: What did Morris get wrong originally?

It would have saved a lot of grief for future owners if they had stuck to one spec type of nut & bolt!

Re: Brake fluid theory

When i rebuilt my moggy pickup in 1991 i fitted a complete new braking system. Having owned several vans in the preceding 10 years i was familiar with the routine of slave cylinders seizing up between mot's & it seemed i would have to replace one corner or the other every year. Iron cylinders wi...

Could be a hosepipe but equaly likely has someone been working on it leaning over the side? or leaning on the wing for photos? Rivets on jeans or coats, belt buckles? All can do that.

Re: Secondtime around Pickup SAP281G

From memory the 2 door's is at least 4 inches longer, Many years ago my other half had a battered old Moggy van, someone drove into a parking space as she was getting out & mashed the drivers door, we had a spare off a traveller & just swopped them over... until we went to try shutting it. D...

Re: Secondtime around Pickup SAP281G

Yes we have started working on it! Started with taking the kickplates & sill finishers off, seats & carpets are stripped out & wood trims removed, Rear door pillars are coming out for replacement. The door fits are not good, one of the problems was at some point the truck had been writte...

Secondtime around Pickup SAP281G

DSC_0061.JPG A long story with my Pickup. My first car was a moggy van back in 87, a few years later I bought this Pickup, It was the classic how not to buy a car scenario, It was at the bottom of a long driveway in a shed that we had to cut our way into through the brambles, no power, our torch ba...

Re: Young driver Insurance

Mileage is recorded at the MOT, would the insurer have access to that data? i would think it possible today? Last time the truck was on the road it was on limited mileage of 5000 a year & at the time there was a mileage carryover every year so it ended up effectively unlimited. It has been off t...

Spoke to Dave & he got one of his blokes Gerard to ring me back. No requirement for a modern car as a primary vehicle. With my lad Nick as primary driver & me as named driver quote was £1182 but we have an excess of £500 each. thats with a good agreed value. Thing is he cant build a no claim...
