Re: Brake fades heart sinks!
Spent the afternoon checking the brakes again. Only this time got someone to push the peddle while I checked each wheel, found passenger side had a handbrake but no foot brake at all! The piston was seized half way out so it could still slide on the backplate for a handbrake, but not work as a foot ...

Re: Brake fades heart sinks!
Thanks Bill,
Will have a chat with the local garage this week see if they'll put it on the rolling road.Years ago they used to take it for a drive and use a hand held meter in the cab, I think those day have gone.

Re: Brake fades heart sinks!
Thanks, I put my hand the hub caps when I stop at the bottom of the hill, to see if any wheels are hot! That's as technical as it gets!! Not sure which is worse going down or trying to climb back up on a cold engine.

Re: Brake fades heart sinks!
I wonder if the lining material on the shoes is harder than it used to be? The van is used daily and I don't have a modern car so I'm used to the stopping distance and lack of servo, but down hill is getting interesting. Mind you it won't stay in second gear because it pops out, so I'm not getting t...

Re: Brake fades heart sinks!
Sounds mad, but has anyone tried filing grooves in the shoes to dissipate heat?

Brake fades heart sinks!
Hey folks, I know this has been covered before ,but just in case theres any new info. The 1962 van with 8 inch front drums and Mintex shoes has terrible brake fade on down hill runs. It's carrying two people and two heavy old surfboards on the lid, but years ago we used to tow a trailer and could st...

Re: LED rear fog.
No worries, I've noticed a lot of modern cars use clear rear lens at the rear and then have a coloured led. I've gone for a red LED behind a clear lens to try and get maximum brightness. I've also noticed on sunny days modern cars have the indicator in the front headlight and this can be hard to see...

Has a rummage around in the shed!
Found a 3 inch Lucas light unit, not sure what it's from, but with a red LED in it, maybe?!

Re: LED rear fog.
True, we do live in an area with a lot of moisture!!
Folk didn't drive quite so close to the back end in the fog as they do now.
Any ideas how bright a led bulb before it's too much for the system, I fitted an alternator
last year.

LED rear fog.
Hi folks. It's fog season again in Cornwall !
Thinking of fitting a rear fog light after all these years , how about these new Led bulbs?
Can I use a red one at the back and not have to fit a relay because they draw less power?
Any help would be great!
Happy New year.

E10 petrol and valve settings
Hi all.
I'm hoping to set the valves this weekend and wondered on a anyone's thoughts on E10 petrol. Is there any benefits to larger or smaller valve gaps? We've only got E10 in the little petrol station near me so I've got no choices but to use it.
Thanks.

Thanks for the diagram, it's cool but I've got two live connectors on the Alt. Also need to know where best to connect to the warning light.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Dynamo to alternator .
Hi folks, Got the new alternator in the post today, but couldn't get the loom to wire it up because ESM say the supplier isn't working due to the pandemic. I have a diagram with the kit, the alternator has two big spade connectors and one small. It says one thick wire to solenoid, one thinner wire t...

Re: Canister oil filter kit probs
That looks like a much better part. I replaced the original today ,between the hail showers!
I needed the van back on the road, but will look out for one of the better housings for the next oil change.
