Re: I'm am slowly giving up on my MM. One problem after another

Keep at it!

I've owned my '52 MM since 1983 and it's only broken down once.

I must add that I teach Auto. technicians and have been a mechanic for over 35 years.

Re: Timing chain

The timing chain is 52 years old, replace it!

Timing chains DO wear out (stretch). A worn T chain can cause a cam to crank timing to be "out" by 10 degrees cuased by stretch. It's such a low powered engine, why allow those valves to open and close out of time?

Re: Winter driving

snow chains show chains snow chains. fixes all in this situation not always... http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q263/jamesbduggan/chains.jpg . I imagine, if the weak link broke, in one of the snow chains it would cause a considerable amount ($$$) of damage to the fender (wing) of that car!

Re: Anyone got a sidevalve ring-gear for the flywheel?

As it says, I'm after a new set of teeth for one of the engines. Has anyone got one or even a very good flywheel? I'm in Cardiff, if that helps. Cheers Rob Rob, When I rebuilt the engine in my MM I replaced the ring gear with new . I found one on Ebay for very little money. The old ring gear worked...

Re: what other hobbies do minor members have ????

Restore/rebuild antique woodworking machines. Current projects are 1907 JM Marston 24 inch bandsaw made in Boston Massachusetts. This saw is RHD just like the MM. Also a 1890s Francis Reed sensitive drill press made in Worcester Massachusetts. One of the last pieces needed was a lower blade guide fo...

Re: MM gearbox design origins?

I was wondering if the MM gearbox components are metric or whit. I've a remote gearstick conversion from a Series 2 M8 but was idly wondering how I might need to make up some longer hold-down studs for it but they might be metric/whit mixed like the Hotchkiss-derived M8 engine. My left hand doesn't...

MM windscreen wipers installation

I imagine this has been said before but I could not find it in a search: When removing the W/wiper assembly for repair, when re-installing the assembly, the driver's side (RHD) gear is installed BELOW the cable. The passengers side gear ABOVE the cable. This is ONLY for "clapping hands" wi...

Re: MM gearbox tailshaft/flange loose

Like the title says, I've just had a look at the box out of HFH 200 and the flange that is bolted to the output shaft is loose. I looked at another box in the garage and it is the same. Is it a known issue? I'm aware of the advice regards speedo slippage in the factory manual but wondered what has ...

Re: Front windscreen and wiper (update)

The process I used to install the W/screen and new rubber: The old rubber was cut out (easily) with a carpet knife against the outside surface of the glass. The windscreen was removed from inside the car. The body surfaces were cleaned of the old sealant and rubber and cleaned thoroughly. Important ...

Re: Front windscreen and wiper ?

Did you fit your windscreen? Do tell us how you got on Mike, I (actually WE) did fit the front windscreen. It was a TOUGH job done in 90 degree heat! The rubber is tight and seals water but the center chrome leaks. I will remove it and add some sealant. Before fitting the W/S I made a piece to take...

Add on Temp and Amp gauges?

My 1952 MM has an ammeter and temperature gauge mounted under the center of the dashboard. I always thought they were original. Not so?

Oil cap help?

Marcus,

Just out of curiosity I Googled "Moose in England" and I found a statement (never take googled info as fact) that there are NO wild moose in England.

I own a 1952 MM (splitscreen). Just trying to keep the thread on track.
