Re: shopping for specific ages of morris minor
On the basis of Louise's post (and assuming they haven't all rusted away) I should have no trouble finding a late 50's traveller

Re: shopping for specific ages of morris minor
Mike, thanks for your response. this'll be my third (and hopefully fourth) minor i am looking to buy, so i am ok with looking them over. my first traveller (YYJ 439) was bought as an MoT failure off the unscrupulous step- Dad of a college friend, and that thing was shot, totally, from front to back,...

shopping for specific ages of morris minor
stupid, stupid question alert: do certain ages of minor come up for sale more often in specific sales locations (e.g. auctions or classics sites), or are the chances of finding a car of a specific age down to the following factors: 1) how long it's had to rust 2) how many there are left in other wor...

Re: Inflated classic prices
i agree with your sentiment, all bodging up cars makes is a quicker passage for them to the scrappers  The things that are being done to Minors big engines suspension mods etc never include safety features paramount in my mind if a member has a young family ! i think that's a matter of opinion....

Re: New Owner
Older cars require more mechanical sympathy and less in the way of gadgets. Consequentially they have buckets more feel. I drove my over- engined traveller on marina discs for a good few years with no issues. The brakes were more than up to it and it probably helped me out to have no servo. Suck it ...

Re: sprite engine
Perhaps I ought to have mentioned that my 1275 was (I discovered after the flywheel bolts sheared) a 1340cc engine with a fast road cam, lightweight pistons, double valve springs etc etc. The fast road cam was obvious from the way it drove, obviously the capacity increase needed the head to be taken...

Re: sprite engine
I was very aware that it was a slightly weaker box and didn't hammer it in 1st. it's not first that goes, it's second. and it wasn't just the size of my boot, the guy who used to fix up my car warned me when i uprated the engine that the 1098 gearbox was only rated to around 50 horses, so i ought t...

Re: sprite engine
If you're retaining the 1098 gearbox you may want to be aware that it will last between 18 minutes and half an hour with the sprite engine in there.

Re: Cost of a new Moggie if made today?
i think it's an almost impossible question to answer, especially when you take into consideration the quality of some aspects of the MM/S2/ thou'. crumple zone implications aside, what manufacturer today would invest so much in the way of steel in a new car? or a hybrid chassis/ monocoque as the Min...

Very kind of your local paper to give a local company (you) a full colour double page spread for free! How much would the advertising have cost?!

I may be missing something here, but was the supposition that a "near perfect" morris minor could be had for less than £1000?

only when rear ended because of the location of the fuel tank, so that engine in that car ought to be ok ;)Fingolfin wrote:Also, don't Pintos have an odd tendency to explode or something? I seem to recall they were unsafe for some reason.

best sit on that to keep your bum warm, it'll do very little to help with the noise.Dr Schnauzerton wrote:I've got a big bit of thick celotex which I will put behind where the rear seat back should be.
try some rockwool batts of a similar thickness if you want to take that route for lessening the noise

Re: motoring section in the torygraph
i think that was kind of my point. as long as one person is in the public eye then it helps everyone else along. i'm sure everyone on here is liberal with their choice of service provider, but it could be argued that there would be a lower profile for morrie thous overall if he were not in business.
