Re: Engine and Gearbox Oil

I have used oils from Halfords, Comma and Wilko`s over the last few years and found all of them fine, As long as you change the oil and the filter at least yearly any of the brands should be fine for our engines. machine tolerances are a bit different on more modern engines and now you see various s...

Re: Rolling tax exemption

An interesting discussion , I thought the exemption was a rolling 40 years but thanks for clarifying. A further point regarding modern cars and lower taxation bands,i I have a Fiat Panda as well as my moggie for day to day driving, i didn't set out to get the most lowest emissions based model but it...

Re: Did they skimp on skimming?

Hi,I would agree with a previous comment, that has a rough skim with a cutter, probably one that is a little worn and also rubbed over as well with emery or something similar, suppose it depends on what equipment the machine shop had but I would expect a better finish than that.

Re: Clutch release bearing preparation

your are correct about the blinding effect at traffic lights, my daughter is learning to drive and that apparently is how instructors teach people now, I had quite a debate with him re this, bit different from when I learnt and I agree potentially people can lurch forwards, I did 120000 miles in my...

Re: Persistent Problem at Speed.

as per some of the above posters, try the condenser with an old spare if you have one, I had a similar issue with a dodgy low tension connection which resulted in the back firing and lack of power at speed but it would idle ok
best of luck !

Ford KA seat purchase options

I am thinking of replacing my existing front seats in my 4 door with some ford Ka ones, My existing seats are not too bad but I prefer the idea of having head rests , I have seen that there are a few available on e bay that are not too expensive, I know this subject has been covered a few times in t...

Re: a few spares can get you out of a hole

well done for thinking it through, I think many of use have a just in case set of items, I have the normal points ,condenser rotor arm (again) after using a spare last time, plugs , tape, hoses and so on. Mostly piece of mind is worth a lot and you hope you don1t have to use them but being on the M2...

Re: MOTPASS THEN ISSUES AFTERWARDS

I never stated I considered the tester had broken the rotor arm, not sure why you thought that. I agree re the quality statement regarding certain parts available but , I can assure you this car is like many others on here is serviced and checked frequently, the quality of modern parts on modern car...

Re: MOTPASS THEN ISSUES AFTERWARDS

Thanks for the reply's, the rotor was from a part that was purchased from one of the well known suppliers beginning with B, cant remember the packaging as it was some time ago and it has since been disposed of , the one now fitted is the original one that was on the car when I bought it back in 2010...

MOTPASS THEN ISSUES AFTERWARDS

Just had my MOT test done, well pleased as a pass and no advisory`s so was feeling well chuffed as I set off back home, car started as normal, few roadwork's just outside the garage so slow single file traffic for about 300 yards, went to accelerate once passed the obstruction and then a stuttering ...

Re: Buying a traveller

some good suggestions regarding previously post`s , halogen headlights are worthwhile and fitting a hazard warning light switch just in case , but, otherwise if it is in good order I would just use it as it is, you need to see if it suits your driving style first then upgrade what you think may be ...

Re: Step by step guide for quarter light rubber replacement

Hi I did mine last year, from memory I had a small amount of trimming on the upright section, I started at the top of the window drivers side and worked my way around, the first door I undone too many screws really as I was not certain how it was all held together, the new rubbers I had obtained wer...

Re: Cigarette lighter socket

Definitely fit an in line fuse, I did my one with one of these with a 5 amp fuse and wired it up with wire coming through the bulkhead to my new unit , there are enough holes available without drilling a new one, use a grommet to prevent any chaffing, I don`t recommend wiring direct from the battery...

Re: QUARTER LIGHT RUBBERS

I fitted mine to my 4 door, its not too difficult and I think they are a universal size but stand to be corrected, one tip would be don't do this with the car parked on a gravel path, I did and dropped one of the quarter light securing screws and spent a happy half hour searching for it ! I spread a...

Re: Touring in a Traveller.

Most of the advice you have had so far is good, I always have oil, leads, rad hoses, fuses, bulbs, fan belt, plugs, oil, brake fluid, water, anti freeze, toolbox crammed full, tape, spare distributer, torch, tyre inflator/compressor. sheet to lie on Probably why my boot is always fairly full! To be f...

Re: oil on inside of tyre and replacing shoes

I will second one of the previous suggestions, if you are not feeling confident get a garage to look in this case first unless you could get a friend with some experience to help or perhaps a member at your local branch ? Your safety and others is the most important thing, having said that if you ha...

Re: MMOC RAC Breakdown cover

I am with Carol NashI but a number of the classic insurers will provide breakdown cover for your minor along with your insurance, for the modern I use Green flag , I dont think the are part of the RAC group, they do operate a discount scheme- with a no call out bonus, mine was about £132 including o...

Re: Help!! Headlights given up on M.O.T. day

I had a similar issue once which had the lights going out when I pressed the dip switch, traced it back to a poor bullet connection in the loom, suggest you could try removing the steering wheel, taking out the card from the drivers side storage area and then examining the wires here, there is a join...
